  • New horn blew power to itself and guage cluster PLEASE HELP

    Good day,
My 2006 RoadStar had no electrical issues. I installed a new louder horn. It functioned fine for a few honks. Then it stopped working. It was brand new so I can return it. The REAL issue is that my guage cluster has no power and the lights and needles don't work. Please help me get my guage cluster back up. I appreciate your words greatly, thanks!!!

Check the fuses. If it is a louder horn it may of drawn more power and has blew the fuse. Aftermarket Air horns should use a relay fed directly from the battery and use only the switched power to engage the relay.

+1 on using a relay, and checking your fuses!

Just wired up a Denali Soundbomb and made a pretty bad ass wiring harness. I'd be happy to make one for you and include a Relay.

I have the relay mounted inside the left floorboard. I took measurements.

Mine runs from the battery down along the frame with the battery cable and pops out by the left floorboard.

I can post some pictures tomorrow.

Here is a link to the wiring harness I made for my sound bomb. She's loud!!

I used black heatshrink all around because I didn't have any red.

I mostly used nice American made Molex connectors. The flag spade connectors are a brand called Nilight. Had a hard time finding American made flag spades.

The directions call for a 30 amp inline fuse (which demands 12 gauge wire). Probably could have used a 20 amp in line and gotten away with a bit thinner of wire (16 awg).

I also bought a slightly nicer Bosch relay made in Portugal instead of the Chinese junk shipped with the horn.

Read online that using a nicer relay can provide for longer horn life. Dunno if it's true but sounded legit. The nicer relay was 11 dollars.

I ran the harness with the battery cable from the battery to the front end of the bike underneath and popped out by the left floorboard. I grounded to the ground bolt near the negative battery terminal.

That harness looks good. Maybe you could share some pics of how you installed it and the relay location as well. Thank you.

Absolutely, positively MUST use a relay when installing a new/louder horn. Have installed many Stebel/woo woo horns and you will definitely fry the wiring or switch if you don't. Wiring kits are cheap and available on eBay or Amazon, or you can make one up yourself. (Great job J89k) I also don't use the relay that is shipped with the horn. Most a Chinese junk. Bosch is a good brand, but I've found TRW/Lucus works great too.

Holy loudness guys!!! So yes thank you for the electrical info. I took my horn to the extreme. So I first tried the Bad Boy horn. Then a pair of hellas. Since I was going to have to use a relay I found the easiest literally plug and play REAL LOUD horn. I want to thank you all for commenting here and on other posts. Together we build better bikes. Anyways this horn is dirt cheap and as loud as any loud ass train horn. Here is a photo of the horn I will post pics of install tomorrow day.
