I'm not interested in those who've switched because the stock spring was to slipping. I have the EBC spring, which is approx. 20% stiffer than stock, but I'd like to know if I'd notice any difference if I switched to the Barnett.

Anyone swtich to the Barnett cltuch spring purely for *performance* reasons?

I switched my 2012 before a trip where I knew I would be riding very hard for extended periods of time. Preemptive type of thing. I bought the bike new and did it with slightly more than 10k miles on it. Wasn’t slipping or anything. Just knew it was a weak point.
I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference in clutch lever pull over the stock setup. Maybe a little but nothing to be concerned about. Did it on my 2000 because it was slipping. That’s actually what landed me on the RSC way back when. Searching for answers on repairing the clutch and came across this place and the rest is history.
If you you already have the EBC spring why not just run it? I mean, the Barnett is best I think but if you already have something better than stock in there and you’re not having any problems with it... -
From what I have noticed after installing Barnett is there is instant hook up no stutter upon release. As soon as clutch is released I got full grab. Clutch pull was slightly harder but after a few kms of shifting it felt the same again. Is there a big difference between a properly operation oem spring and Barnett? A bit I guess feels better connected than before. I need more than an hour of test time to tell but initial thoughts that it is smooth.👍 1Comment

I'm more interested in hard acceleration in first and second gear. The EBC doesn't "slip" in any gear, but it can take a moment to hook up under WOT from a standing start. Nothing major, I'm just curious at this point. If you haven't noticed by now I'm all about the fine tuning.Comment

That hesitation could be the EBC spring not quite being strong enough to hold OR the discs are a little worn. If you were to go to a dragstrip and do 3 passes with your current setup and then install the Barnett and do 3 passes I'm sure the difference would be very veey very very neglibile.LET'S RIDEComment

Doc, you say it's hooking up in all gears, and even under hard acceleration, so I'd have to say leave it alone.
The Barnett clutch pressure plate is better, but not worth buying and replacing your clutch now. If it ever starts to slip, change it then.
There is no performance gains, unless your clutch is slipping now.
I hope your not revving the engine, then dumping the clutch?Comment

Oh hell no... I'm just talking freeway on ramps, the occasional stop light and stop sign next to someone on a Harley or sport bike, whole shots, etc., basically when I'm having a little fun. It doesn't slip when it's already in gear, but it does take a moment to hook up in first or second under hard acceleration. Again, nothing major, but if someone were racing it would definitely make a difference to use stiffer springs. BTW, I thought you could chose the stiffness of the springs on a Barnett kit. Anyway ...I may not race anymore, but it's still in my blood.

Yes, racing was in my blood, but now, I just like to cruise.
I know it's not good for the clutch to slip, but if it's slipping a little for a second when first taking off, it would give you slight edge, by getting the RPMs up to the torque and power range. High tech dragsters set clutches to slip just enough to keep the tires from loosing their bite and keeping the RPMs up.
Barnett does offer different spring tension, as to what tension comes with the standard kit, I don't know.Comment

Shows stiffer springs are extra but do not specify what they are. I dont see the need for them unless you would be racing or something else like wheelies lolComment
