  • Stratoliner Rear Wheel

This has probably been discussed on here before, but will a stratoliner rear wheel fit the road star?

  • #2
With plenty of modifications. A few have done it, but threads would be on the old site. Maybe some of the admins can post a few links.

I was afraid of that. I really don't have the capabilities to make a lot of mods. I was hoping for something reasonable and to be able to match the front strat wheel I already have.

Was kinda wondering if anybody did have any info. Is it a big PIA to mount a strat wheel on the back of our bikes ? Looks like the front is no problem. Found a set for sale, and was thinking about maybe installing on the project bike.

Looks like it can be done, but requires quite a bit of modification:
I\'ll visit my friend & if his bikes at the shop, I\'ll get pics & ask about required machining. I\'ll get back to you mid/later part of next week ...

            Thanks Lance,
Much appreciated. Dosen't look like there's been a lot of them done. I guess it all depends on how much the wheels are guna cost me if I decide to do anything.

I have a new pair of Stratoliner wheels I was going to use & never did if anyone is looking.
Swapped out for some custom wheels on a brand new bike, sitting in the garage since then.
Wheels are in SE Wisconsin 53549 zip code.

It would be great to know for sure if a liner rear wheel will fit without a lot of hassle.

Did you ever figure out how to mount the rear, Or just get the wheels and that was it ? PM me about cost for the wheels.

The front bolts on like a stock Roadstar wheel, no mods.
You will need spacers to put the rear in but I don't think many other mods are required since the Liner runs a 190.
Probably shave down the brake stay & make sure your subframe & fender mount bolts aren't interfering.
I think you might also have to do a little grinding at the front of the swingarm.
Lots of people have put 200 in a Roadstar, once you get to a 210 the list of mods (like DChopper did) goes up substantially.
I just went with a custom swingarm to stuff a 250 in the back so the Liner wheels just sit there.

I paid $250 for the pair + shipping, if I get that back out of them I'll be happy.
They include the bearings, pulley & the rear wheel dampener plate.
Right now they have junk tires used to roll them on rubber rather than the edge but those can be pulled off for shipping.

the rear fender needs to be wider and the wheel hub and other things on the wheel needs to be shaved down. i remember dchopper was one of if not the first to do this (well one i know of before him but dennis was the one who did the article on how tobdo it)

I'm pretty sure Dennis didn't put Liner wheels in his bike, those were Raider wheels.
The Liners use 18" wheels front & back, the rear is a 190.
The Raider has a 21" front & 210/40-18 rear iirc.

gotcha. however I still feel most would still hold true as far as I've been told a 180 is the widest you can go without Fender modifications or replacement. and I bet the hubs are the same width for all the 1900 bikes

FYI, you can always search the archive, the search function is a little tricky and you sometimes have to click on "More Results from roadstarclinic.com" if you get limited results, but it's there. Yes we're aware there are limitations and missing data, but that's a dead horse.
