Hi All,
Been on the forum for a little over a month (same time for the “new to me” bike). The help from all the members has been Great! I have the Cobra long shots with the stock baffles and it was quite loud as well as massive backfiring on deceleration. Quite annoying as you might imagine. I ordered the Baron AIS removal kit, Cobra “quite core” baffles and a external filter for the PVC from Denis Kirk. Cudos to DK for having everything in stock, at a good price and fairly quick free shipping (must be approx. $90 total for the shipping). I, in my unbridled enthusiasm, assumed the baffles would be a quick swap out... HA! LOL After stripping the bolts that attached the baffles, taking the entire exhaust system off, drilling out the offending screws and renting a slide hammer from the local auto parts store, baffles were out! New baffles went in smoothly. Followed the Barons instructions (sparce at best, no pictures either) and a few YouTube videos (no real good ones either) the AIS system was off and plugged. I made a bracket to mount the PCV filter where the AIS pump/filter was from a piece of 1/8” x 1” x1” aluminum angle from the local big box store, i prefer the orange store over the blue store for various reasons... So, after a test ride, the exhaust is quieter (not massively but is noticeable) and hardly any backfiring!!! That was worth the whole ordeal in and of itself. I’m assuming the AIS removal was the reason for the no backfiring but since i did the baffles at the same time it is unsure which change had the desired effect. Time will tell if the air filter will not become saturated with engine oil but if nothing else the external filter looks cool, see attached pics (not the best, sorry).
Thanks again for everyone’s help
