Engine Oil bolt

Is there a specific way or tool to get the engine oil bolt off? I am unable to screw this off. It looks like the top base is on the way,

When you drain the oil, you need to remove two bolts. One as seen your photo and another at the right rear under the oil tank. Don't just do one or you will only be draining half of the oil. I just use a modified 6 point box wrench or open-end wrench with a shorter handle. Roll the bike up on a couple 2x4s and put a 2x4 under the kick stand. Then gently tap your modified wrench with a hammer. Be sure to replace the crush washer.

Ok that's cool! I cut off a perfectly good standard length wrench.

I use my bike lift and a long 17mm wrench.

knowing me, this will happen if i try rolling it on anything. any other alternatives short of a proper lift?

You don't have to roll it up on anything or use a jack. You just need a short wrench that you can get in there and tap with a hammer.

New plug and crush washer torqued to factory specs, use any wrench you want as it won't leak or be over tightened for the next time. Too easy right?

Like previously said get a new crush washer or fine sand that one down flat . Looks like you were leaking from the washer. There are those that replace the crush washer every time and there are those that are careful and reuse it for a lifetime.

I don't use a lift for any fluid changes....hate working on a bike when it's in the air on a motorcycle jack. If I have to lift it up input jack stands under it ...much sturdier ...

Been using my jack since the bike was new, not a POS like some are and strap the bike once you have it in position. I don't like laying on the floor anymore lol.
