Looks like it's a job! I need to do mine or at least tighten it 22k miles

No zerk fitting. I just greased up the bearings really well before installing.

I only used the bottom seal, because that one gets destroyed removing the bearing from the stem, i put the tapers sandwiching the rubber washer

I called the local Yami dealer and the tech said flat sides toward the rubber washer ridge toward the bearing dust cap so it doesn't scratch the cap. I think it's one of things where it's not the end of the world if they're flipped. He also said the aftermarket kits often fit several different bikes and the extra dust cap may be for another bike, so I left it off.

My clymer manual shows the rubber washer and the 2 bearing nuts with the flat side out, the taper part of the bearing nut faces the rubber washer. I dont know if it matters but when i removed mine, i forgot which way they went. I used the pic in the manual and all is great, no problems. Taper towards the rubber.Hope this helps.

  • All Balls Steering Head Bearing Kit - Did you use the small upper dust cap?

The All Balls Steering Head Bearing Kit came with two dust caps, one larger cap to replace the old one under the lower triple tree roller bearings, and a second smaller one that looks to be for the upper bearings; but the bike comes with a much larger reusable dust cover that sits under the castle nuts. [# 3 below] Did you place the smaller All Balls cap under the reusable stock large cap, or just throw the extra cap out?

On a related note, the two castle nuts used for torquing down the steering head bearings have two sides, one side is flat and the other has a small ridge around the inner whole. The service guide doesn't show the orientation of these nuts, which way are they supposed to go? Ridges facing out, with the flat surfaces sandwiching the rubber washer,or the opposite?

    Thanks.
