Has anyone replaced the rear shock with the tire on?
If so... how difficult was it.... anything specific to do the job?
    Thank you in advance....

Real easy with tire on. Lifted bike with jack added 2x4 or 2x6’s on each side of jack then lowered bike onto wood. Got it high enough to get tire off ground and added a small car jack under rear tire to take pressure off of it before removing shock assembly. Seems I needed some knuckle joints on my socket to get one of the bolts out but you can look and figure that out. Having the wood holding the bike allows you clearance to lower shock down between them. Was an easy way to do it for me. Maybe someone else has some suggestions. JC

Dont bother with a stock shock go with a Roadwing! It is a Goldwing shock and spring adapted to the Roadstars. You can do yourself if you are pretty handy or contact Smokescreen and he can sell you one all done up ready to install. Best mod I have ever done and wish would of done earlier.

Jack the bike up, set it on blocks and use a shovel to leverage the rear wheel up or down to unload weight from the shock bolts. Easy peasy!

I just did my rear shock BUT i put bike in air on jackstands and removed wheels. Two 17mm nuts and the bolts slide out. I removed rear mud guard because I also dropped swing arm to do new swingarm bearings and swap belts. Installing Roadwing and selling my stock shock with Barons RED heavy duty spring. Then install trailer hitch and then custom 18 in wheels and 65T HD pulley and new tires.

we get real bored up here in the Midwest over winter....

Why not put the red hd spring on the roadwing?

The Goldwing spring is relatively close in "weight" to the Barons "Red" spring or else in would have done so. No real gain for me being solo...unlike going from a 730 lb stock spring to a 930 lb Red spring. Goldwing is 840lb spring and I ride 1 up (245 lbs) 99.9% of the time. With the increase dampening and control of the Roadwing setup I didn't think another 90 lb stiffer spring would be any real benefit (if not actually less comfortable).....not to mention I can easily sell the stock shock with Red spring for $50-60 plus sh AND not have to swap springs which is not fun at all.

But.......here is a thought. I am adding a heavy trailer hitch (prob 40+ lbs) and will be pulling a Bushtec trailer (never pulled anything with a motorcycle before)....Would adding the weight of the hitch and pulling a trailer benefit from having a 90lb heavier Red Eibach/Barons spring? Stock front springs but heavier fresh synthetic 10w fluid....

Until you get the hitch & trailer setup going it may be a good idea to hang onto that spring.

All I can say is that i'm a fat ass and tow a trailer sometimes. I have the Roadwing and a HD progressive spring. 15w oil and progressive springs in the forks. It rides well for me.

It's not too difficult. I even made a video for it.
