Heel toe shifter

    just a thought, but have you considered changing it to right foot shift?

    if you look above the gearbox there is a substantial engine mount bolt. this could be used to run a tube with 2 tabs welded to attach to that mount and would be solid and secure enough. a shaft running in that tube with linkage to attach to the original linkage, and another linkage at the other end to mount a rod to the right hand running board.

    the tolerances would need to be close to avoid slop and poor shifting, but anyone with a reasonable understanding wouldn´t have too much trouble making it work.

    just a thought…...

    Use some plastic dip on the heal area of the shifter. It should help with the slipping issue!

    Sounds like a good low bucks fix. You might want to consider some tight fitting O-rings around it to help get traction.

    After some thought I have come up with an idea...I fitted a 25mm deep well socket over the rear shifter peg...would need some tapping on but I was thinking hey that may work...now to hold it on without killing someone if it comes off...Liquid Nails..and since the socket will be slick I will put some no slip tape around it to make sure my heel won't slip...any thoughts on this...I have ruled out cutting the rear shifter off and having a longer shaft...

    It would be nice to know the size and teeth count as necessary to be able to cross reference and find what pedals could be used in place of OEM for the road star. I would love to have more options to choose from for my 2002...

    It seems to be a void that no one wants to challenge, for a lot of different bikes, brands and models...

    I would bet there are a ton of different parts that would plug and play, if we knew more about the specs of the parts on all of the bikes.

    So the grooves wouldn't match? Or do you mean the center hole cannot be tightened down to fit tightly on the shifter shaft of the bike, or both?

    I have a 2002, so I don't even have this type of option,but I am curious...

    If I remember correctly, the splined clamp is too large for the splined shaft on our RS. Standard vs Metric, as it were.

    What year is your RS? If it is 2006+, I wonder if you could replace the heal lever?

    Saw this for a Harley but wonder if it would be the right size to replace the one on your RS...

    Midnitmike, that is what I am thinking of doing...but...on my trike I had kicked the crap out of the rear shifter with my prosthetic and it came off...I guess I am so bionic up shifting that I abuse the poor ol shifter...I need to learn to control my shifts more easier...the weight and less control is something I have to overcome...in the thought of drilling and putting a bolt I feel the metal won't hold up and break off...I def. don't want a air shifter but we'll see down the road...practice makes perfect

    Exactly. I would seriously consider cutting off the rear peg, then drill and tap the spot for a threaded replacement rod. You could purchase a front peg rubber and use that to resize your rear peg and it would still look stock. If it proves to be too small it's a simple matter of increasing the length of the bolt until you find something that works. for you.

    Thanks for the interest on my post...thought about the air shifter but it's not for me...I still got some mechanics shifting still...thanks to a heal toe shifter it works..but need to extend the rear peg wider so I won't have a issue not hitting the gears...

    Too bad you missed out on that Roadstar on C/L that was posted on here for $1000. It had an automatic transmission. The jockey shift wouldn't work 'cause then you would have to work the clutch with your prosthetic, which would be more of a PITA than shifting. Maybe Jockey shift with a Rekluse clutch ( if they even make one for the Roadstar), but that's a lot of $$$. Really shouldn't be all that hard for a fabrication shop to just make that part you stomp on a little bigger. Hell, for that matter you could probably just JB Weld something on there. I would sand off the clear protective finish if I was gonna go that way. Whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you.

    Looks like there's a lot of stuff out there for disabled riders not real cheap though I did a search gear shift disabled motorcycle and a bunch of stuff popped up

    My 05 midnight has a one piece H/T shift lever. Maybe 06 was the year they changed?

    I'd put a suicide shifter on the gas tank that would be freaking awesome or I would flip it over to the other side knee shifter

    Oops! Sorry about that. I thought they made all the changes in '04. I really don't like putting incorrect info out there.

    I'm not sure of the "mechanics" involved in your shifting technique, but a virtual run through the motion indicates that a slight ankle movement is needed to re-position the heel in order to accomplish the task on the smaller version found on my 06. Since this rather delicate movement is not possible with a prosthetic I can envision two distinct alternatives that may help in your situation. 1) Remove the shifter and extend or enlarge the rear peg, possibly substituting a front peg in it's place. This would require some slight modifications ie. welding or machining the part, but it's doable. 2) Replace the rear peg rubber for something more substantial that extends the overall size and shape of the peg itself. This has the added benefit of easily modified at a later date to better suit your needs.
