Did you replace your brake line hose? If not, how old is your brake like hose?

Stainless steel brake lines will eliminate a lot of the mushiness. Also organic pads may feel a little more mushy to some versus sintered pads.

Some folks just open the master cylinder cap, slowly push the brake pedal down and wrap a bungee around it to hold it down all night. Sometimes that can let the air escape on its own.

Got the same issues as mentioned above (deteriorating rear braking power and spongy pedal). The brake pads are good so I bled the rear brake line, added fresh fluid being careful to not get air in the line, adjusted the master cylinder travel (not the height of the pedal), and no luck. In fact, it's worse. I virtually have no rear brakes at all now. I've noticed that most recommendations revolve around bleeding the brakes, brake lines, and brake pads. Not many mentions about the calipers, and not many are recommending rebuilding the master cylinder. So my question is how likely is it that when the brakes feel spongy that the source problem is actually the master cylinder? How long do master cylinders typically last? My bike is 17 yrs. old and has 50,700 miles on it. Perhaps it IS time to rebuild the master cylinder. I'm going to try bleeding the brakes again; we shall see... Thanks, Scott

an MC brake system will last indefinitely, as long as the brake fluid is refreshed as it becomes contaminated with aluminum dust and moisture intrusion. if a fluid change doesnt help, an inspection is warranted. warm water can do wonders, but all water needs to be extricated. follow up with alcohol, then brake fluid. never had to mess witha a RS system, as i change fluid every 2 years. my most recent kawi 2005 1500 hydraulic clutch fluid was like brown beef gravy with chunks, and the MC had crystalized fluid caked to the sides. fluid color is a good indication of age.

why cant' you bench bleed it? Did you crack the line right at the MC and push the pedal and retighten the line before releasing the pedal a few times to remove all the air from the mc?

Yes, sounds like you're doing it wrong.

Pushing the pedal down without any Pressure on the pedal , is a waste of time . That Is My Problem !!! I have BLED EVERY CONNECTION AND BLEED VALVE , and still have ZERO PRESSURE to push with !

The only other thing to do would be to bench bleed it.
The following MPA video will show you how to bench bleed a master cylinder before installation. The master cylinder should be bench-bled to remove air. Remov...

Here is another using a different type kit

Are you leaving the lid off of the master cylinder when you attempt to bleed the system? You should.

you may have an aneurysm brake linein the brake line. have u removed and flushed the brake line? could also be shat in the bleed vavle on caliper. aneurysm brake line can be a bubble about to burst, or the inner tube separates from the outer under pressure, and fluid flow is cut off.

Have you checked the pistons? Our calipers have 4 pistons, 2ea per side. And each piston has 2 seals, 1 outer dust cell and 1 inner hydraulic seal. If the piston is jammed or piston seal is cracked, you will not get satisfactory pressure. Due to internal caliper leakage.
if it takes a couple of pumps to get good pressure, then you have air in the line.
If you have great pressure, but the brake lever moves after stopping, master clyinder is leaking internal.
                                      Just my 2 cents.

CAUTION!!! BRAKE FLUID IS EXTREMELY CAUSTIC!!!
                                        IT WILL DAMAGE PAINT!!
ALMOST AS SOON AS IT HITS YOUR PAINT.
USE SOME KIND OF OLD FENDER SKIRT OR PAINT PROTECTOR.
USE ONLY EUROPEAN DOT 4 GRADE BRAKE FLUID

The way I have bled mine is as follows.
                                        get Aquarium air line tubing.
Get an old "clear" drink/coke bottle and glue it to a larger piece of cardboard for stability.
Drill 1 hole just large enough to pull the airline tubing through and 1 small hole for venting.
Now you need an old turkey baster or syringe. Open master cylinder and remove the old fluid from reservoir, but do not remove completely. Now take that fluid and put it in the old clear drink container, fill that reservoir, repeat for the other master cylinder reservoir.
Once you have that done, make sure you have enough tubing pulled through the cap to go below the old fluid line. Tighten cap onto the bottle.
place the long end of airline tubing onto the bleeder valve.
Get a wrench that fits the bleeder valve, then open and hand snug the valve.
Position yourself to be able to pump up that brake system and open that valve. when to do the front calipers, do the left cailper first, then the right. On the left caliper continue pump/bleed a couple of times, then check master cylinder, refill. Continue until new clear and no air bubbles appear.
Then the right caliper, the same as the left. Be sure to check levels after 2 pump up sets.
Repeat for rear caliper, again check for fluid level after 2 pump ups.

                                        I hope that helps.
