I hate drilling through chrome, it always ends up getting cruddy around the holes.
I just picked up a HD extended harness on eBay from seller KCINT for $15.95 shipped.
Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for EXTENDED HANDLEBAR WIRING HARNESS HARLEY BIG TWIN & SPORTSTER 1973 -1981 REPL OE at the best online prices at eBay! Free shipping for many products!

You can also buy them direct from KC International, but I don't know if they offer free shipping on orders from their website.

Easiest way to thread wires through bars is to first thread kite string and use compressed air to blow it through.
Air always finds the hole on the other end & takes the string with it. Tie wires on & pull back through. E-Z-P-Z

Good point, learned that from wiring electric guitars with limited access routing.

I always run my wires through my bars. Buy dimpled and predrilled bars. Remove wires from connectors in headlight. Very simple procedure. If you need to extend the wires for taller bars splice extensions by soldering and good quality heat shrink tubing. Also remember to stagger the splices to prevent a bulge in the wire bundle.

Lots of members here have done that. Some just replace the stock bars with larger diameter bars which give you more room inside.

started a topic Handle bar wires.

    Handle bar wires.

Has anyone ever drilled the bars and inserted the god aweful wires thru them.

    Problems i see would be.
Have to drill big holes on one side.
Chrome breaking away and becoming unsightlu/ rust problem.

Any tipS i was thinking drill in near top clip and out under bars at bottom. Leave bottom tab on bars.

Just in thought stage for now. Or new predrilled bars.
