Fuel pump bracket

Question for the clinic regarding my 03 Midnight Star. The bracket that holds the factory fuel pump and attaches to each cylinder and the backbone of the frame…Does that bracket need to remain attached if I’m running a Mikuni 42 which doesn’t require the fuel pump? Or can I remove it completely to clean up that side of the engine? I would probably install shorter bolts into the cylinder due to the original ones being to long without the bracket, to cover up threaded holes left behind. Does all this sound correct?

Exactly. You'll have to relocate your enricher if you have the stock carb I'm not sure on a 42 or 45 HSR

I ordered some short stainless ones off eBay fairly cheap hardware store doesn't usually carry M10 by 1.25 just 1.5 pitch

I had mikuni on my mind for some reason. sorry I have the HSR 42.

You can tell the bracket is pretty important because of the thickness of the metal. I would not remove the bracket because it adds rigidity and stability to the engine interface with the frame.

I have removed and ditched the fuel pump bracket and the cross piece between the heads on multiple road stars with no issues.I do see where it would have rigidity to that side of the motor however. Sure looks better without it...

Listen to Mort, The pump bracket can be removed but leave the motor mount bracket that goes from the frame to the engine.

Here's an idea to help it disappear, bevel all the forward facing edges top and bottom from both sides to a dull knife edge, now black it out in flat black.

That motor mount to be seen you will need to be on the ground looking up under the tank. Especially on the side stand, you dont see it, just leave it.

I wouldn't remove the top bracket holding the cylinders for support...but you do have the intake manifold attached to both cylinders in between for support if its a concern.

im with the aykm nfw i would remove a 1/4 in thick steel motor mount either, ive seen lately that some lose or remove the rear engine nount on the cover of the front pulley, they are there for a reaon on these tork monsters. if u remove u run the risk of frame cracking over time? or other issues. when power is sent to the rear wheel, all sorts of foces are going on.

If you do not like the way the bracket looks, take it out. Then either paint or powder coat the bracket.
Or have it....Chromed!

I may prep and paint one and throw it back in black bike. My bobber is a totally custom frame so not worried about thet but it does have a cut down version of top bracket for enricher and ignition key. Purple bike is getting sold so I'll tell next owner it will likely crash and burn...

Thanks for everyone’s recommendation. Sounds like I’m leaving it on and getting it powder coated.
