  • Handle Bars

Hello everyone, Im new to the forum im not to sure if this is the right section to post this but here goes nothing. Yesterday I was unloading it from the back of my truck when my ramp slipped out, long story short the bike fell hard and bent the bars to the point of being unusable. my question now is how do i find a good handle bar that will actually fit my bike? or where can i find the stock ones that came with the bike. Its a 2004 RoadStar xv1700a

If you weren’t happy with stock bars, gravity just handed you an excuse to try a different height or bend. Lots of info on here about that. It’s a personal thing because we’re all different shapes and sizes.

10 inch mini apes you don't need anything different. Just install them.

Wouldn't you need longer cables and wire extensions?

Nothing needed for 10 inch. I have 10 inch with 4 in risers and only needed a upper brake hose. The OEM worked but was a little tight

        • #7
So i do need some risers? if i went with 10 inch minis? or does the bike come stock with a 4inch raise? also whenever I check if a mini ape hanger fits my bike they say it incompatible

Your bike came stock with these and 1” diameter bars.

I had the cheap J&P bars and they worked great. When I added risers I did go with extended brake lines. I now have 18" apes and they are perfect for me since I have stubby legs and a long torso. TimB could hook you up on the lines, or there is also Raymond Chan on Facebook, another great guy to deal with.

I bought new grips anyway so I just cut the stockers off. you might get lucky and be able to reuse the stockers, but that just depends on how stuck on there they are.

Just changed my bars out; didn’t like the angle they put my wrist at. Also I’m a heavy guy and they would flex a bit when I pulled myself up to readjust my seating position. Went with a set of 1 1/4 inch bars and they feel much sturdier.

I'm hesitant about ordering these bars because JP says it does not fit my bike, is that just a error? also does anyone know where i can find the extended cables to fit the bars.

They are simply 1" bars. They will fit. The serrations at the clamping area might show a little bit or not perfectly Mach the risers, but they will work just fine and when tightened down will not move. You won't need longer cables for these bars, may just need to re-route them.

For 10" bars your stock cables will work just fine.

Probably. You would need to at least rotate the brake line fitting at the bar side to point down. The other cables would be fine, but may need to re reroute the cables. You can also get a brake line from TimB on here or Raymond Chan on Facebook. He is a member on the RSC facebook page. I paid I think $40 for the extended top line when I went to 18" bars.

I installed a set of Harley touring bars that I got off of ebay for $48 shipped. They are really nice, fit me great.
No extending cables or anything like that.
