  • Road wing rap

    I recently installed a roadwing with rap, everything worked like it should but I wasn't happy with my rap placement. I decided to move it,in the process I lost a little bit of fluid. Now the rap doesn't feel like its working. Does it need bled? If so, how do I do it? Or does it just need more fluid added? Thanks for any help offered.

    Yes, you do you have to bleed the RAP. Jason [Smokescreens] made a video about it, but I can't find it. Anyway...

    1] Unscrew the RAP knob all the way out. Next, holding the RAP with the banjo fitting on top, remove the banjo fitting.
    2] Carefully stick a screwdriver inside the hole and gently compress the piston all the way in. [Top off the oil as needed.]
    3] Replace the banjo fitting and dial in the RAP all the way in.
    4] With the RAP *lower* than the Roadwing, *gently* crack the banjo bolt on the Roadwing and let any air bleed out.
    5] When the air stops and only oil comes out re-tighten the banjo nut.
    6] Repeat these steps until no more air comes out.

    Lastly, top up the oil in the RAP and reinstall. You should be good to go.

        I used power steering fluid in mine. Works fine.

      Pretty much any kind of petroleum based oil is fine. You can use motor oil, I've used fork oil. I'd avoid anything too heavy and *do not* use break fluid.

              Thanks for the video, can this be accomplished with the shock installed? Or does it need to be removed?

                It can be done with the shock on the bike, you just have to remove the RAP.

                  the video is embedded in the install link as well. like doc said, dont use brake fluid but i will add dont use trans fluid either. motor oil, jack oil, hydraulic fluid, fork oil ect. i use fork oil and the lighter the better only for filling reasons. other than that you will never notice a difference.

                    Thanks for all the help, got my rap working again. Another question, I placed the rap below the right passenger floor board, just above exhaust. Will the heat from exhaust cause any issues?

                          Unless part of the system touches the exhaust or a really hot part of the motor. I did some work on my bike and when I put it back together I let the hose touch the back of the motor and melted it. Also watch for pinch point where you route the line.
