  • Looking for Engine rebuild kit

Looking for a complete rebuild kit, to include piston rings head gaskets crank bearings etc. for my 2006 1700 Roadstar. Currently I am fairly certain I have a head gasket leak and while I have it apart I figure I’ll run through the entire thing and give it a little TLC while I have the engine pulled just for sake of simplification. Thanks!

I don't think there is any such kit.You will need to make a parts list and find them thru a dealer or parts outlet.

Also you do not have to pull the engine to get the heads off. You can even pull the cylinders and pistons without removing the engine. Also unless you have a couple hundred thousand miles on the bike there is no reason to split the case to look at the lower end. If you re-ring it do not hone the cylinders, you will destroy the coating in the cylinders if you do hone them.

Why donyou think you need to rebuild the motor? Why donyou think you have a gasket leak? Seems like you might be spending a lot of $ and time for no real reason.

I would try to re-torque the head could stop oil leak. Shouldnt need to rebuild.

I understand your mindset, might as well do it while you are in there. But this ain't no H-D or short block Chevy, these bikes are built to last. Once you get a look at the cylinders you'll see they probably still look brand new. IIRC you can't get bearings for the bottom end. Usually if someone has one that's just been totally abused, they go on Ebay and find a whole motor for $500 - 800, but even that is rare. The worst thing that happens to them is you might have a lifter fail if someone ran shitty oil in it. If you have a head gasket issue it's probably because someone got in there poking around where they didn't need to be. The bikes are so cheap to buy it makes no sense to dump a bunch of money in one to fix it unless you just like throwing money away. I have a 2006 also with almost 60K miles on a stock motor, runs perfect.

            .....crank bearings etc.
The crankshaft bearings are an integral part of the cases. Bearing(s) out of specs- you replace the case.

Crank out of specs- Yep. Replace that.
