Looking for a loud and angry exhaust

Vance and Hines Longshots with baffles removed....and you can siply put them back when your tired of noise forn the sake of noise. Sounds GREAT at idle but blatty and overly loud running through the gears!

Depends on the sound you want. Dual exhaust (like Freedoms) with no baffles and fishtail tips sound very unique and ridiculously loud. In a good way. But very different than what I listed below. The snap back sound when you roll off the throttle is neat.

Shorter pipes with baffles also are very loud but still sound good (Vance and Hines short shots. I think Cobra makes something similar.). I had some sort of medium length Cobra on my 1600 that sounded great and were very loud. They still make something similar as far as I know.


In my opinion, most pipes without baffles are just loud but sound like crap (except for duals with fishtail tips). And you typically lose some performance without baffles, especially in shorter pipes.

Loud = less performance due to no back pressure. The deepest rumble is from larger diameter mufflers like the Greedom 4” Racing Duals or Basannis with HD cans.

I probably tend to experiment with exhaust more than anything else A) because I can and B) because it's subject with so many different physical properties involved. To date the best exhaust system I've found came on the 2007 R* that I purchased a few years ago (it's my sig pic) and from what I've been able to deduce was a mid length 2.5 inch single wall stainless pipe made by Sampson. That internal dimension (2.5") is I believe critical to getting that deep throaty roar without the irritating blatting sound that you get from the smaller V&H pipes. With the Roadliner the sweet spot seems to be a 3.5" exhaust diameter, it's just big enough to set-up a nice deep throated rumble without getting into that hollow tin can sound of a 4". I found baffles and baffle designs incredibly frustrating and hardly worth the effort in the long run as a properly designed exhaust system functions perfectly without resorting to baffles.

Another interesting find was that single wall pipes tend to resonate internally and produce a high freq metallic sound (think tin can), but double wall pipes or exhaust tips tend to attenuate that same sound and produce a much cleaner exhaust note.

I have a set of Rinehart pipes gonna try out sometime. I think they are 2 1/2” and not much of a baffle in them but there is something. They are near as long your so close to rear caliper. Any input on those? I dont think they make them anymore.

The V&H Short Shots look like they should be loud as hell, but the baffles are not removable. The pipes are quite tame actually. Not what the O.P. is looking for. The V&H Powershots I was previously running with no baffles were loud as hell and featured a "crossover" which helped them a little versus a "straight" set of open drag pipes. I would have to agree the best sounding ones to me are Freedom or Bassini true duals (one out each side) with the open fish tails ( no mufflers no baffles), which just also happens to be the most expensive exhaust system out there for the Roadstar. Go figure.

Have landed a BRAND NEW SET of ROADHOUSE CLASSIC 2 -1 Pipes . Was a small trick to fine tune the installation , but I really like the look . As soon as I get a replacement for my Tach Gauge I'll fire it up and see how I like the change .

I had a 'builder' 2001 Roadstar I sold a while ago that had Bubs with no baffles.
First time the buyer took it out after the sale he got a ticket for noise.
Really, really loud & deep.
Sounded like cannons firing non-stop.

I have Bubs on my 2004 Roadstar and they sound awesome. Very loud but a great tone. Too bad they don’t make them anymore. They look great too.

I have v&h longshots and have experimented with different baffle configurations. With the stock baffles (louvered, not much of a baffle anyway) the sound is pretty nice (and very loud) but still too much high pitch.

no baffles is F-ing loud but I didn't observe any blatty sound it actually sounded awesome. But here in cali they write tickets for noise.

The v&h quiet baffles sound bad. not really quieter just bad.

I then got the thunder monster q double-lollipops and mounted them in front (engine side) of the stock baffles. Now it was nearly perfect, as the low frequencies seem to come through but none of the high pitch puffy pfft sounds. The double lolipop also seems to make kind of a thunder-clap when you get on the gas which I think is awesome.

But because I still found it too loud I made the ones in the pic myself and put them at the end of this configuration. Now I have what I want. 102db at idle btw.

For really loud I would go with the longshots and just the monster q. Very good backpressure and performance too.
