Just curious and would be interested in being able to trouble shoot an oil pump failure as soon as possible. What would be the indicating symptoms? Appreciate any and all information passed along through this site.

If you're tearing the old motor down I might be interested in a few of the external parts.

Well, he got the engine out and now it’s time to clean up the new engine and go through everything and then put the new engine in the bike.

If that's the assistant helping, I'm not sure I'd get any work done on the bike.

I'd try to get the work done, on the bike!

When I pulled my motor, I left one engine bolt in with the nut off. Then laid the bike on its side on some padded floor mats. Removed bolt, wiggled motor out and picked up the bike. Did the same thing for installing it. That made it cake work for my 146lb (back then) Scrawny ass.

I left the 1600 motor and put it in the back of a pickup truck by myself. It is quite a chunk of weight that right there. I definitely won't want to do that on a daily basis

Mike, I think the indicating symptoms would be immediate noise in the lower engine case and possibly jamming something up. If it didn't jam and it ran for too long, the engine would seize do the lack of oil. The issue is not that the pump starts pumping less but the shaft on the gear fractures. You don't know what you have inside until you pull out the clutch and look at the gear. Someone here can post photos of the old versus the new gear.

I was riding in the mountains come to a sharp curve in my front brake locked up and I Spun me out and totaled the bike but the engine still good that’s how I ended up for another engine..

Sorry to hear about the donor bike. That red one looks very clean and nice. I guess it's making the best of a bad situation.
