Hello brothers of the Road,
excuse my ignorance but i was just wondering what or how you can damage your clutch? Over my 30 years of riding experience i have never had a clutch issue. Just wondering what your experiences have been with it, i know it can be a pain in the butt

You can damage it by using non-Wet clutch motorcycle oil, letting the clutch out to slowly thus allowing it to slip excessively, slamming the clutch trying to do burnouts or allowing the clutch to slip in higher gears when it becomes worn. In the last case, when shifting into 4th or 5th and going uphill are pulling the load you may notice that the are rpms increase but the speed does not. You didn't say if your clutch is currently slipping or if you were just curious.

Procedure for damaging clutch:

A: Remove clutch cover.

B: Grasp pick mattock handle with pointed end of pick mattock facing clutch.

C: Strike clutch repeatedly with full force.

D: If clutch is still functioning correctly, more repetitions may be necessary.

Oh hell, I just use a ball-peen hammer. Quicker and works most every time.
