  • Going pumpless

    Does anyone still have the write-up on going pump-less? Or any advice? Pictures are always helpful! Also, if I go pump-less, Any good uses for the unused bracket?

        i made a bracket that bolted where the fuel pump bracket bolted and used it to mount the choke cable. don't forget to pull the little screen out of the carb where the gas line hooks up to it... also a good idea to vent the gas cap (super easy to do)

          I used the 650? Bracket that mounts on the rear tank bolt on mine for the Enricher mount.

          Use the proper needle and seat. The one listed in the article for the Yamaha Grizzly.

          +1 on the little screen on the carb inlet, and venting the cap.

          Also, don’t over think the fuel filter. The ff1203 at Autozone, is nothing more then a fine screen. The body however is large enough for air and fuel to separate, in case of sloshing in the tank as the fuel gets below a 1/4 tank.

            Ok, so I put in the fuel filter, removed the screen, vented the gas cap and replaced the needle. I did as the article described but I’m getting no fuel. I twist the throttle and no fuel.. ideas?

                Try to give us a little more info. Is fuel coming out of the fuel line by the carb? Is fuel coming out of the squirters in the carb inlet?

                    Everything was good. Fuel was coming to the carb but not coming out of it. I just kept pressing the accelerator pump until it spayed and now everything seems to be working.

                        It is running like a champ. I don’t have a baby sitter so I can’t test ride it. It sounds much smoother. I re-jetted and ported my manifold as well. I can’t really test the bowl consumption until I can ride.

                          You will be fine at lower acceleration/speeds, but when you get to a certain point in your rpms, you will encounter fuel starvation. It was most noticeable to me on the highway, it feels like it bogs down.

                          It needs the larger needle and seat to give you full operation at all times. If you've already replaced it with the right needle/seat, you are good to go!

                        For those still looking for this. I copied this straight from this site years ago.

                        Going pumpless
                        2 feet 5/16" hose
                        3.0 needle and seat PN# 2C6-14190-30-00
                        A high flow fuel filter 5/16" ID
                        4" corner bracket


                        Step #1 unplug battery
                        Remove dash bolts
                        Remove speedo
                        Remove vent hose on top of gas tank
                        Undo green wire clip at base of tank.

                        Step #2 turn petcock to off position and have a rag ready.
                        Undo hose from petcock and catch loose fuel with rag.
                        Hook new hose to petcock and drain the tank into a gas can.

                        (Optional portion that realigns low fuel light to come on before you need to switch to reserve)
                        Remove the 2 bolts holding petcock into tank and remove petcock.
                        Remove both screens from petcock and cut long tube on petcock by 1/2"
                        Re assemble.

                        Step #3 remove long bolt at rear base of tank.
                        Wiggle toward back until tank is free to lift away and remove.

                        Step 4 remove air box.
                        Remove throttle cables and mount from carb.
                        Remove rest of fuel lines (rag in hand).
                        Remove and unplug pump by removing it whole bracket.
                        Loosen the clamp holding carb and wiggle carb loose.
                        Unplug tps and heater and remove.

                        #5 flip carb over (gas will come out) remove bowl by the 4 screws holding it on. (You might have to loosen heater and spin plug in away from bowl).
                        Loosen the only Phillips screw inside bottom of carb slide bar over and pull floats out gently.
                        The needle will come out with the tank on the floats.
                        Remove the screw holding seat in an pull and wiggle out the seat needle was in and replace with the new one.
                        The old needle needs slid off tang and new one put in its place.
                        Re assemble and tighten.
                        Do not bend tang.
                        This would be the time to clean or change jets if needed.
                        Replace bowl and tighten

                        This would be the time to port the manifold if you are going to.

                        #6 plug tps and heater back in and mount carb back in manifold.
                        Reattach throttle cables and air filter.
                        From the left side you should see a screen in the carb fuel inlet.
                        Remove by sewing a wood screw into it and pulling it out.
                        Hook up fuel line to carb and clamp it.
                        Cut hose with enought lenght to hold your filter where you want it while running line under the carb and manifold, and cut spring wrap for hose at same lenght. Slide hose wrap and clamp over hose and slide filter into the end of hose and slide clamp onto filter.

                        #7 take the corner bracket and a step drill and waller out two holes on one side of bracket till they break threw the side.
                        Paint bracket.
                        Run choke over carb and idle control under carb.
                        Mount them to the bracket.
                        Mount bracket to the hole fuel pump was mounted to. (May need to drill a hole in bracket to line up with pump bracket holes).

                        Now is the time to decide how you want to vent the tank.
                        Either vent gas cap (seen on the clinic forums) or to drill out the existing tang vent at the top right of tank.
                        You will see how tiny the stock hole is.

                        #8 Remount tank to the bike.
                        Replace rear bolt at base of tank.
                        Fit hose on the other end of filter and clamp.
                        Cut coil to lenght to petcock.
                        Slide coil and clamp on.
                        Connect to petcock and clamp it.

                        #9 Finish reinstall of tank.
                        Connect green wire at tank base.
                        Connect vent hose.
                        Connect and mount speedo.
                        Connect battery.

                        #10 Add fuel, turn on petcock, check for leaks, and ride
                        need to adjust your float bowl level afterwards.
