brown stuff in the tank

rust in the gas tank,been setting for a few years so I tried the apple cider vinger and it did clean it a little but not all of it. going to the M acid next and try to keep it off the paint.next will be carb cleaning and make-in sure the fuel pump isn't full of rust. I bet I'm not the only one that's been thru this before. yawl stick with me until I learn my way around this site please, lots of great stuff in here..

Guys on the XS650 forum have been using Evaporust with great results. I have a gallon on my workbench waiting to be used in my XS tank.

having a little finding evaporust, where did you get it?

Put a bunch of nuts and bolts in the tank also as you slosh the cleaning fluid around.

I assume you should probly remove the sending unit if doing this?

Fuel line and stuff isn’t too much to replace too. Might as well replace it all while you are cleaning the tank and carb. The acid is a big hassle to work with so be careful. The newer less dangerous stuff they sell doesn’t work as well as the old stuff. You can throw some jack chain in the tank to help knock some rust loose. Also be careful of the flash rust that can happen if the tank is left empty after that acid is washed out.

Yes. And in the future never let the bike sit with a low filled tank. Keep it full to prevent rust.

I will Shores but better yet why not get on it 2 or 3 times a week and ride it,lol,,yes sr mr daveto I have a new one on the way ,this one is toast.
