    I highly recommend reading this entire thread, there's a lot of good info in it. But if you just want a better understanding of the importance of ZDDP, then go back and read comment #18. As for non-MC auto oils, they have friction fighters that will cause premature wear and eventual slippage of your clutch.

    Most importantly, someone may *think* they're fine with cheap auto oil, but they're doing long term damage to their motor. It could take 10-20k miles to show, but eventually it will. It really depends on how many miles you already have. But there's no getting around it, it's being penny wise and pound foolish.

      AswAs prevsprev statedastated ,lot of problems on Facebook with people having lifter and cam s where wearing out and we're seeing other people with slipping clutches. I ride every day ,all year, and I like the bang through the gears. I don't do any burnouts though except an occasional accidental, or I come around and turn a little heavy and I'll get a little drift but in the last 50 years of riding motorcycles I've never needed a clutch. However I was taught old school, you're supposed to be in neutral before you put your foot down. Sitting at a red light with the clutch pulled was not acceptable. however there are circumstances where you do not want to be in neutral at a red light. When I go to Daytona, I am surprised at the number of people that just pull the clutch at red lights. I'm pretty sure that's a good way to wear your clutch out, in addition to put ting oil that has detergents and slippery agents that will mess up your clutch

        I’m confused with your statement about being in gear at a light is bad.

        Sitting stopped with the bike in gear can’t wear a clutch out if it’s properly adjusted and not dragging. If you’re speaking of the throw out bearing in the pressure plate, it is not turning when in gear and stopped. Only the outer basket is spinning with the engine, but the pressure plate and inner boss is connected to the input shaft of the transmission. While stopped and in gear, they’re not turning.

        Now, automotive clutches are different and the throw out bearing spins any time you depress the clutch.

            Pulling in the clutch lever at anytime is not wearing out the clutch prematurely in any way. That is exactly the way it is designed to work and to be used.

                    im stuck on this, clutch disengaged, all parts are together as one, ;' when u pull the clutch, the PPlates separate from the clutch discs, so arent they now separated slightly and creating heat and slipping like a car clutch?
