      Oh your the 5.5 quarts guy!!!

      Yes, there's a really good chance 5.5 quarts was making things worse. Having the crankvent hooked to the back of the airbox, will simply add oil to the filter. Many a stock paper filter has been destroyed by soaking up oil from the crank vent air. Even though the air shouild have been on the inside of the filter going directly to the carb throat, it still managed to oil soak the paper filter.
      When you relocate it, besure and block off the hole in the back of the air box where it was connected.

        Pulled the skinny jet off to the side and it says 35 on the side with the square within a square.

          That’s stock. Step up to the 37.5 Mikuni Pilot, and get the needle and seat swapped out. As bad as it sounds from your post, I’d imagine the oring that seals the seat is shot also. The new needle and seat, comes as a set with a new oring on the seat base. Lube it with a little grease or oil, before you slip it back into it’s little hole.

              It’ll be fine. The 37.5’s big benefit is in the off idle throttle response.

              That is one ugly needle and seat. Add a couple ounces of Seafoam, MMO, or Techron to every other tank of fuel or so, and that won’t happen to the new one.

                Last question for now I think. Is this the right one to get? I added some seafoam when I filled it up and went around the block a few times.

                  This is the correct replacement, but I think Davej has mentioned that one will work.

                      How did you get a Barons needle all by itself. The screws are usually in the kit.

                        I am guessing the original owner had the carb jetted by the dealer when they put on the BAK and V&H Exhaust.

                          Take one of your bowl screws to a decent HW store, and get hex head replacements in stainless steel.

                            Got the carb put back on and took it for a test ride. It rode fine for 20 miles and a few stops. Then it started popping in the exhaust while I was sitting at a stop light. I got it home and looked and didn't see anything loose.

                              If it does it again, ease the Enricher out a bit and see if the popping goes away. If it does, there’s a pretty good chance you might have created an air leak at the manifold to head joints.
                              It’s not uncommon, when removing and messing with the carb, to end up with a leak there.
