from talking with a couple people it seems like it will set a code if it detects something is out of whack which could mean there was an engine problem. A very poor state of tune which would produce more emissions would be detected by an auction sensor which could then set a code that flashes on this speedometer. At least that's my understanding from the little bit I've done researching today and talking with some race by guys who have newer stuff with fuel injection computers 02 simulators etc

Having a fuel injected Road Star mandates one needing a factory service manual. Not only are the fault codes explained, but also there is a section to put the system into a diagnostic mode and decipher each code as to why it threw the code in the first place. Far cry from the old count the blinks.

You can find the 2008 manuals on eBay. Tho they are used they are in relatively great shape and can be had and shipped to your door for around $25 if you catch the right seller
