Did some research and it looked like this pulley would be a direct fit for a road star. I bought two off eBay very reasonable and sent one to Duke to look it over take some measurements etc His initial impression is that he thinks it would work but I don't think he has had time to put it on a bike and test it. I'm busy with other bike stuff to do it myself the possibly this winter. If this works out it would be a wonderful way to get acceleration on a 1600 or 1700. However the belt lift is only one and 1/8 in so it would be a direct fit on a 1700 with the narrow belt but if you wanted to put it on a 1600 you would have to also buy a narrow belt or use one from a 1700. Hopefully going from 32 to 30 tooth would not necessitate Having to buy a new belt. Not sure on going from a 33 all the way to a 30 if there would be enough adjustment in the rear to tighten the belt up properly. I know from first hand going from a 33 to a 31 tooth front pulley is a very noticeable difference in acceleration. So to go from a 33 to a 30 would be a huge jump. So instead of having to pony up for a new Barons 31 tooth aluminum pulley which some people feel is not a great option because of the weaker aluminum although my experience was it was fine, You could search eBay or Facebook or Bolt forums and pick up one of these steel OEM Yamaha Quality front pulleys for Maybe $50 to $100 shipped. The bolt guys switch pulleys to get more highway gearing.
Hopefully either Duke or myself will chime in later with definitive results for this.
