TPS readings is this ok

  • TPS readings is this ok

    My base reading on the Blue / Blk wires closed throttle is 5.04 k After rotating TPS full stop i can not get any lower then .732k on the blk/yellow wire base setting. throttle closed.
    Setting base is as far as I could go after rotating the TPS.
    then full throttle only goes to about 3.66 k.
    waiting on a part for the carb so I haven’t run the motor yet.
    question is my TPS defective or is the in range of working?
    feedback much appreciated.

      I know you want it to be between 0.63 and 0.73 V at closed throttle (I just set mine 9n my 07 dead 8n the middle of this range)

      Per Dave J past post...

      Positive tester probe →
      yellow terminal “1”
      • Negative tester probe →
      black terminal “2”
      Digital circuit
      Throttle position sensor closed
      position voltage
      0.63–0.73 V
      Measure the throttle position sensor voltage.
      d. Adjust the throttle position sensor angle so
      that the voltage is within the specified range.

      CHECKING THE THROTTLE POSITION
      SENSOR
      1. Remove:
      • Throttle position sensor
      (from the throttle body)
      2. Check:
      • Throttle position sensor maximum resistance
      Out of specification → Replace the throttle
      position sensor.
      Resistance
      3.08–5.72 kΩ
      Positive tester probe →
      blue “1”
      • Negative tester probe →
      black “2”
      Measure the throttle position sensor maximum
      resistance.

      3. Install:
      • Throttle position sensor
      NOTE:
      When installing the throttle position sensor, adjust
      its angle properly. Refer to “ADJUSTING
      THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR”

        Are you sure that is my post? If it is I must have copy/pasted that from the manual

      An 06 roadstar. I am reading using Ohms instead of volts. My base read is 5.04 k ohm so I was trying to get the .700 k ohm base value. But I had turn the sensor all the way clockwise and still was a bit above .700 k ohms.
      when I first hooked up the Blk / yellow wires the value was .950 k ohm. I will put it back together tomorrow see if this adjustment changes what felt like running rich.

        Well the bike feels a bit smoother and pulls a bit better at cruising speed. So it appears to be working.

          You did it right. Per the manual the resistance at throttle closed should be .13-.15 times the total resistance.

          So if your total is 5k ohm, lets take the middle .14 your resistance at throttle closed would be 5kohm * .14 = 700ohms (.7 kohms)

          Note that temperature is a factor. You can take one measurement early in the morning when its cold and another in the afternoon then take the middle.

          On my 06 1700 I have found that if the value is just slightly higher (like yours was) the bike runs really rough. Fortunately it is super easy to adjust as you have found.

          Per the measurements you posted your TPS is in order but it wouldnt hurt to go a tad lower to 650-700ohms at throttle closed. If possible. Otherwise go as low as you can and see how it runs.

            Thanks for your responses the bike is running good. I was aiming for .700 ohms but by turning the TPS I could not turn it any further.
