00 Roadstar Transmission Recall not affected on my bike?

I called Yamaha about the transmission recall on my bike. First off, I gave them the vin # and they couldnt find it in the system. Turns out the bike was originally from Hawaii. So they had to look in International vins. (Strange)

Anyway they told me my bike does not have the recall. So, im wondering if the (International) Roadstars were build at a different factory and doesn't have a faulty circlip? Or is this thing gonna lock up on me one day.

Never heard of that before... Seeing how all Road Stars were built in Japan... Why would it matter where they were shipped to? IF THEY WERE built in a different favtory why would they use different parts in them. Sounds like a dealership doesn't want to be bothered. I would find another dealership and press the issue

are you sure they didn't mean that the recall has never been done on your bike? As far as I know all 1600's were recalled.

I work at a Dealership that sells Yamaha. And I called Yamaha personally. And the person I spoke with told me there was not any recalls on my bike. I don't know. Maybe I'll call again and maybe someone else will have some insight.

Could it be that Yamaha no longer has that information in the system? BubbaKahuna had a post a while back that the recall was closed.

We just had one in our shop last month for the Trans recall. I don't believe this one expires being a major safety issue.

Okay I just got a 1600 road Star. The nhtsa says there are zero unrepaired recalls. By my VIN. What does that mean and what do I need to do?

sounds to me as if all recalls have been done. is the neck stamped for the trans recall?

Nothing on the neck except the VIN. What number do I call local Yamaha dealer?

Call your local dealer and let them run your VIN first to see what is on file in the database.

Not every single 1600 was affected.
Dealers get paid 16.5 hours shop labor rate at full retail plus get the kit for free from Yamaha.
Saying 'dealers don't want to do it' doesn't make sense, they get paid very well for doing it.
If Yamaha says your bike is not on the list, it's not on the list, chances are it was already done.

PM your VIN to me and I'll run it to see what the actual factory record shows.
