That's what I take from reading thru this. The rotor is not centered in the caliper. Eather the caliper or the rotor needs to be spaced different. Can you measure to make sure wheel is centered on bike. This wheel hasn't been altered from somebody else's project, has it?
It's not that life is so short, it's just that you're dead for so long.---unknown.

no all parts are new, i will check the spacing after work today and i will also try old pads to see if that helps. mikey c i will measure from inside esge of fork tube to rotor face on both sides to see if there is any difference. thank you for all the help guys really appreciate it. i think shores told me to do the loose rotors and squeeze lever idea once before so i will try that again. i was traveling for work the past few years and never had time to really work on bike so now that im done traveling i want to get riding.

your caliper spacers should be 9/32" (right between 1/4 and 5/16) that will put the calipers dead center over the rotors. other thoughts i have is you have a 1600 roadie. so you have floating calipers. make sure your caliper will slide left and right with the wheel off to make sure your caliper is not binding on those pins. if your caliper can move freely and the spacers are the right size you have air in your system still. i went bottle after bottle even with a vac bleeder. in the end to get all the air out i had to use my finger as a pressure relief valve over the banjo bolt hole in the master cylinder to get all the air out of it. then i did the same with the splitter under the lower tree. then i was able to bleed normally for the calipers themselves. i could not believe how much air gets trapped in the master and splitter no matter how much you bleed from the valves on the calipers.

thanks for all the help, i think it was the calipers frozen on the floating pins. pulled them and they were dry as a bone, added a little grease reinstalled and had brake feel on lever. one trip of about 5 miles total brakes are all good.

Glad you found the issue before the holiday weekend. Now you can go for a ride.
