  • no brakes still?????

    i have messed with this so much and cannot figure out! i purchased wheel tire rotors pads spacers for axle and now spacers for calipers and fender. i cannot get brake feel in the lever once everything is installed. yes i bled them about 4 bottles of brake fluid started saving it after i bled it through. i attached photo of everything i bought maybe someone can help me?

    What year is bike
    Stock master cylinder? (maybe time for rebuild)
    No Leake?
    Banjo bolts tight?
    Stock lines or aftermarket?
    Tried using bleeder hooked to air Compressor to bleed?
    What brake fluid? DOT 4?
    STOCK CALIPERS? Maybe disassemble clean and rebuild

      An air bubble at the slitter will do it. Very common to get a trapped air bubble there that is hard to get out. Cover the fender or remove it to keep brake fluid off of it. Crack the line (s) 1 at a time and pull the lever and watch for a bubble.

        i have discussed this problem on here before and i discovered that if the caliper mounting bolts are left loose the brakes will work. that being said i could never find the right size shim until just the other day and i put those on today only to find the same issue. my thinking is that maybe i purchased a wheel or rotor combo that doesnt work with the common harley wheel swap? any ideas?

          can anyone tell if the combo of wheel and brakes along with smokescreens spacers could be wrong width? the brake system itself works but not when tightened down. the wheel has resistance on it without pulling lever when calipers are bolted on tight.

            I don't think the aftermarket rims or spacers have Anything to do. It's a sealed hydraulic system. Need fluid and free moving parts with good seals to compress/open and push fluid around. Air bubbles likely culprit.

                spacers came from punch designs llc, said they were for roadstar with harley wheel conversion.

                    yes, u are actually who helped me last time i brought this problem up. gave me the idea to loosen bolts and see if brakes worked

                      Sounds like something is binding when you tighten the caliber bolts, meaning the spacers could be to thick, or thin. If you look at the rotors head on, and between the brake pads at the same time, the rotor should be centered in the calipers. Check both left and right side if you have 2 sides.

                          You would think if it worked with the bolts loose then binds when tightened that the tire wouldn’t spin freely? Can you spin the tire with everything mounted and bolted? Is it possible a fork tube is bent and slightly twisting the calipers when tightened.

                            thank you for help i really want to get this done so i can ride. shores.....im not much of a quitter and the oem wheel does not look good, po spray painted so much stuff on this bike black and im slowly replacing or having repainted professionally. wheels were one of these painted items. would a custom bike shop be able to fix this? should i throw in towel and drop off with pros? dont know if my wallet can take a custom shops prices? suggestions?

                              I just went back and read another of your post that said when you tighten the caliper it put "resistance" on the wheel. IMO that means that the caliper isn't centered on the rotor. Until that is fixed you will not resolve your issue. In fact fixing that will probably resolve your issue

                                Custom shop would bang you $1000-2000 to fix... I couldn't get wheel bearings out of a set of wheels... Went to two buddies that have shops and they couldn't either. Ended up going to custom HD shop.... $200 to pull wheel bearings (granted they said it was a bitch and had 2 hours and actually gave me a break on their labor rate). For them to mess with a Roadstar and something as complicated as brajea/soacwr/custom parts...... Would be sky high........

                                  are the front wheel spacers the same size could they be put in backwards like one side is 1 inch and the other 1 1/4 inch on the other side could you swap your spacers to see if that will free up your caliper hope i explained that correctly hope this helps.

                                        One other way is to loosen the caliper mounting bolts, have someone squeeze and hold the front brake as you look at the spacers. The gap is what you will need to shim with washers.
