  • Oil around front pulley cover

OK, was checking the front pulley nut and appears there is some leaking of oil on the inside of the front pulley cover. Anybody know what I should order to get this fixed? Thanks

I took the cover off of the front pulley and the oil that is leaking does not smell like gear oil. I sure that it is motor oil. Where could motor oil leak from and end up on the inside of the front pulley cover?

I believe that is motor oil behind the seal, behind the pulley. Gear oil is on the other side of the bike. Id replace the shaft seal and o-ring behind the pulley and you should be good

Behind the pulley is all transfer case components lubed by gear oil.

Yea, I know that. It just does not have that nasty smell like gear oil. Maybe the smell goes away after being installed for a while. After taking a closer look the oil could only be coming from behind the pulley. I ordered the o-ring and new oil seal. Also ordered the older style nut and lock washer. I'm assuming that is all I will need. No reason to think that the bearing has gone bad?

Is there a certain process for installing the oil seal that sits in front of the bearing? I have planned on replacing the o-ring and oil seal and a new nut and lock washer. What is the correct torque for the pulley nut? Thanks

Hope do you install the oil seal? How do you know that you have it far enough back?

Check to make sure it's flush with the case. It should have a lip behind the seal, but I'm not 100% sure.

I was told that tightening up the pulley nut could solve my similar problem and it did. I had already ordered the new seal, oring and new lock washer, but since my problem is fixed at least for now I am just keeping the parts until I need them.
