Slipping Plates - Not at the dinner table

Hi everyone - New to the forum scene. Bought a '04 RoadStar 1700 back in '12. Local shops in Raleigh / Durham will not work on the bike anymore since it's over 10 yrs old. One place in Durham ripped me off and place in Raleigh is slower than winter molasses. So....

Can anyone suggest where to get plates for this bike (XV17A)? I have Amazon Garage and the parts kit gasket did not fit.

Currently staring at a kit on motosport.com $139.

Also, any advice for someone who has never done this before? Watching YouTube videos now. THX!

First off... from SE Massachusetts, but beyond that, you didn't state what your symptom was, so I am going to assume it is a slipping clutch in 4th and 5th? If that's the case, you probably don't need plates, but the spring. If it's slipping, and the plates are good, which is the far greater likelihood, you can get by very well with the EBC clutch spring for about $50. And, if you use a tube of gasket maker, according to instructions, you don't even need to buy a new gasket, but you sure need to get all the old one off! It was all I had to do... Hope this helps.
