  • Clutch torque?

    What is the inch torque for the Barnett Clutch spring? Is there any need to remove the lever where the clutch cable connects at the clutch cover when removing the clutch cover? Thanks, getting ready to do something I should have done a long time ago. upgrade the clutch spring plate!

    Those bolts are torqued the same as with the OEM spring. 5.8 ft pounds or 69.6 in pounds. You don't have to remove the lever.

        I only had this slipping issue a few times. Do I need to replace the plates? I've got 35K on the bike now.

          Not likely.

        Food for thought. Foot pound torque wrenches aren’t that accurate that far down on the scale. Inch pound is better. Click image for larger version

          Not unless the steel plates are blued or warped or if the fiber ones are worn beyond spec. Lay them on a piece of glass and use a micrometer. I just checked the first two to avoid taking them all out and they were fine at 60K.

          I have a inch torque wrench. Thats the one I'll use. Thanks for the info.

                  Another happy rider after installing the Barnett clutch conversion! Made a world of difference! Don't bother with the EBC spring plate, there is no comparison to the Barnett! Happy Veterans day!!

                  I would move this post to the correct area if I knew how?

                    I too have considered installing the Barnett clutch spring. I didn't realize that I had any type of clutch slippage but the way everyone speaks of it I am thinking of trying it. Maybe the previous owner installed it already? I don't know about that or the oil pump shaft, it's a 2000. I'm thinking of opening it up this winter and inspecting before I order anything. I wish I could get a good history of my R.
