  • It just died

    2007 Yamaha road Star 1700. I was leaving work and it just died. It's as though someone shut off the fuel. It had 1/4 tank, fuel valve was turned on. I turned it to reserve just in case. It just cranks. It was running fine with no issues at all prior to this. Any help is appreciated.

    Hey Bill, one possible cause is the fuel pump going bad, then it could be a plugged fuel filter, or any number of a few different things to check. We need to know more about your bike, please fill out the info on your bike in the personal info section as completely as possible including any Mods you have done or know that have been done. This will greatly help us to better ask questions and help diagnose the issue. But my first guess is a bad fuel pump.

        Wow!!! My bike did the same thing. 2007 road star 1700. The tank been resealed, new fuel pump, new plugs, new coils, and even run 93 gas. After riding the bike for about 20 minutes it feels like its running outta gas. I still have power but just spins over. After letting it sit for about 3 hours till the bike cool off then it’ll start up. Even added clear fuel filter so I can see if trash going through it. No trash is being seen. It’ll run again after riding for a while it’ll die again. I’m tired of throwing parts at it and every “mobile mechanic” gave me wrong diagnosis of the bike. The weather in Georgia been good. I only rode my bike 3 times this year.

          Empty and clean tank to make sure the sealant hasn’t flaked off and is plugging up the peacock filter. No need to use 93 on this low compression engine. 87 is recommended and you are just throwing $ away. High octane suppresses combustion needed for high compression engines. It can cause carbon buildup on low compression engines. Correct?
