One other question, probably silly question but does a 1200w stereo amplifier put a lot of stress on my battery or just a bit more, my battery is pretty good and never had a starting problem 310cca. I trickle charge my battery once every week.

Well, my battery died on a short trip just because I was running my aux lights. Weak alternators are the problem (early 1600). I rewired the bike and went to a premium gel battery, but still avoid the running lights despite the fact that I went to an LED main headlight.
Just sayin...

Agree with Midnight on the Stator and Rectifiers are the week point in the charging system. However I replaced mine with the upgrade version and have had no issues. I run led headlight and passing lights that come on with the key and stay on. I also run after market Bluetooth speakers with amp that I wired into the ignition so they turn on when the key does and have no issues with draining the battery.

At full volume… 1200 watts power is 10 amps draw…. You will not have any friends, your speakers may be relatively short lived, and you may no longer have hearing
at 1/2 volume…. 600 watts…. 5 amps draw…. You will have some friends left, your speakers would probably survive, and you might experience some ringing in your ears..
at 1/4 volume… 300 watts…. 2.5 amp draw…. You will have lots of friends and still have your hearing….
of course this assumes you want friends and the ability to hear anything……

Also depends on the amplifier. Alot of cheaper companies will say 1200 watts! Meanwhile its rated at 1200 watts at 20K hz. Meanwhile at 60 hz its only rated at 75 watts. I've seen that quite a bit. Also a class D amp will use less amperage then a Class A amp. Then there are class T amps which use even less.

So much for my attempt at humor…. Didnt realize that a technical explanation was required….
so lets get technical…. Most amps are rated at “PEAK” power cycle…. Not at continous power…. The power ratings are therefore artificially high…
Then we have to add up the power rating for each channel… manufacturers tend to give overall power ratings… ie: stereo amp is 600 watts per channel “PEAK” power rating which equates to 1200 watt total power rating…. Sounds a bit deceiving on the specifications….. (most “normal people” will listen to radios at around 20 watts per channel…. Yes… NORMAL People)….
Dont believe me… then go to a guitar store and crank up a 40 watt guitar amp and strum a chord… watch how fast a salesman cuts your test amplifier off.
Now we add in the different types of amplifier design such as Class A, Class C, Transistor, MosFet, Push/Pull… etc…
since Audio signal follows a Non linear level output versus power output (logarithmic)… 1/2 power output doesnt mean half volume level… i can continue this discussion to baffle you in bullshit or just take my original reply as a feeble attempt at humor…
in a synopsis of my prior post…. Unless you want to play the radio at ridiculous volume levels,…. The radio alone will not drain your battery at normal riding RPM’s… add incandescent lights and other high current source demands then you may exceed the capability of your charging circuit….
The roadstar motor will achieve rated charging current about 1600 rpm… (2:1 spin ratio of the stator/ field) Your test results may vary depending on the condition of your individual components (diodes, staor windings, dirty connections, rectifiers, etc.)

Thanyou i understood all of that im a vehicle technician. The amplifier i bought was custom made by the company Fender (yes Fender) it cost me a fortune. Yes you are correct m 1200w is maximum shared by 4 speakers, 4 speaker 4 outlet speaker system. The reason i paid so much for it was the genuine specifications and the excellent quality coming from the fender speakers. I have tried Boss, Shark, Pyle ampifiers and found them to be cheap rubbish, with crackling speaker, speakers breaking down when loud and little if any suppression built in. I have fitted a new battery last year namely a yuasa YTX20-HL-hBS 310cca, hoping that might be help to handle the usage. ........... I would like to know if this a very good battery or is there better quality batteries available, this one cost £109. Advise welcome please.

about the best and only thing you can do is upgrade to 2005 plus stator and rectifier and then have a nice fresh battery and good positive and negative wires and good connectors all clean and free from corrosion. Even then you're not going to be pushing 1200 watts RMS. But if you bought the typical handlebar system don't worry you're absolutely1000% nowhere near 1,000 Watts RMS lol. I have a fairing with two six by nines and a sundown 90x2 RMS marine amplifier. It puts an honest 90 Watts into each of my 6x9 speakers and it's incredibly loud and I guarantee louder than any handlebar cheapy system you could buy.LET'S RIDE

1200 rms WHEN FED WITH APPROPRIATE SIZE POWER AND GROUND CABLE and when given the power it need (battery, stiffening capacitors, alternator etc) will pull a solid 10 Amps. That's a lot. And I don't think there is any way the electrical system on a Road Star will allow the 1200 w rms amp to work correctly ...
99-04 system makes 21A output and 05+ makes 30A.
With the small size battery, wiring of all electrical components, weak stator and regulator/rectifier I highly doubt you will ever generate 1200W continuous or even for a second.
People who have huge sound systems on motorcycles have extra battery stiffening capacitors and very high-end generators alternators etc and large cables connectors etc.
What are all of your stereo speakers like exactly? Size capacity brand how are they mounted? I can hear my stereo with a full face helmet at 90 mph with loud exhaust so for me that's as loud as I need it to be....that's just two 6x9 speakers and Sundown 90x2W amp.LET'S RIDE

So you have a custom made genuine 12v automotive/motorcycle amplifier.
That would be a true unicorn!
From what little research I have done, fender is allowing their name to be used as a selling point, for "OEM" car audio sound systems for VW and Nissan.
How much did it cost?
Audio output ratings from "Any" amplifier are just a numbers game
I have not been in the consumer/mobile audio business for 20 years, but at that time, manufacturers were moving to class "d" amplifiers and in my humble opinion, they sound like shit!
I am a former high end audio certified technician. I repaired home, mobile and video systems.
Yes, they can claim 1200 watts per channel, but it is a numbers game
How much output current does it produce? Current to what causes the speaker to move. Sound is nothing more than the movement of air.
Remember audio signal is AC voltage. Any DC voltage on the output to the speakers will damage a speaker. Any amplifier will output DC voltage when the amplifier can no longer produce clean pure sound. That is called clipping. Clipping = audio output distortion.. Tweeters go first.
Wattage is a measurement of heat.
When a speaker is rated at 100 watts, that means it can play all day long at 100 watts, because can dissipate that heat. Anything more that that, you will over heat the voice coils on the speaker driver and it will warp and freeze in the magnet.
A 100 watt speaker can handle say 500 watts of power for an instant, but not continously.
So mobile amplifiers input voltage is 12v DC. Inside the amplifier that voltage is stepped up to a higher voltagevoltage.es the manufacturer accomplish that? What kind of power supply does it have??
How is the amplifier output stages designed?? Is it a discreet transistor or Integrated Circuit amplifier?
So many questions...
And not trying to beat you up but,, you must be a very special person to have a company like Fender to build you a custom mobile audio amplifier..
As for the VW and Nissan Fender "designed" sound systems, I have read that Panasonic builds the units.
Just my 2 cents worth.2005 Silverado Midnight Star

A lot of what you're going to hear depends on the speakers and the enclosure they're in.What size and type of speakers are you using are they two-way or three-way? A lot of things affect the sound quality as well as volume. In my experience the easiest and cheapest is 6x9s and one amplifier. Four speakers that are either 5 1/4 in or 6 and 1/2-in Do not produce the volume of two 6x9s with a decent amp.Do you have a picture of the amplifier I keep looking and can't find anything that Fender makes for motorcycles specifically and the only 1200 W amp is for a subwoofer. You may be limited in your country on what you can get easily We're pretty lucky here in the US We have tons of options for cheap and easy as well as pretty high-end stereo systems. I do not like any of the handlebar systems that I have heard.LET'S RIDE

But having a custom amplifier for your motorcycle would only be useful if one you had a place to mount it carefully and safely away from the elements to you can get enough power to it and three you have speakers that would handle the output of that amplifier. What is the rest of your system like? What gauge wires are you running to the amplifier? Do you have a second battery or any capacitors? Do you have any pictures of the amplifier I'd be very interested to see what it looks like as far as dimensions size where it would fit etc.LET'S RIDE
