          Thanks man!
Not much to post right now. Been working on the wiring lately. Trying to thin it down to only basic necessities.

Eliminating the kill switch, have a question. I'm thinking that to eliminate the kill switch I would leave the circuit open (NOT connect the two wires running to the kill switch). Is that correct? I believe that the kill switch acts as a ground if I'm not mistaken when the wires are connected. Can anyone confirm?

I found a diagram for it. According to the diagram it looks like the two wires for the kill switch need to be connected (close the circuit). I will attempt that and see if it fires when I get to that point.

Just a quick mockup while I work on the wheel and try to finish up the wiring.

Fresh powder on the rear wheel. New bearings installed and the tire mounted. I managed to snap off the rear brakestay bolt inside the swingarm. That should be fun to get out.

I bought this motor on ebay, so I've never heard it run, this has kept me nervous awaiting the first fire. Additionally, I was in the zone when I was wrapping up the wiring. I already had all the wiring soldered, taped, wrapped, and tucked before I attempted to start it. Considering the amount of stuff I cut out and all the unknowns this could have been a disaster trying to figure out where I went wrong. Thankfully the engine turned over. It will run for a few seconds at a time, but it is starving for fuel - no surprise without an aircleaner and the pipes cut short.

Time to tinker with the jetting. Has anyone had any luck with jetting for minimal air cleaner and open pipes?

Thanks! I ordered it from ThrottleAddiction.com . It's not a simple bolt on job. I had to have a machinist do some work, also had to find different bearings to help with the conversion. Will also have to do a little notching on the frame. But it's worth it if you want a vintage style springer.

The carb that came on the bike had a seized PMS screw that the previous PO clearly tried to get out because the head was stripped as well. I knew I was taking a chance drilling it out, but I didn't really have a choice. Well, when I drilled it out, I stripped the threads and the tiny little needle broke off inside the carb body. Couldn't get it out. Thankfully DEEPHATE had one on here for sale that needed some work. Bought that and was able to come up with one good carb out of the two. Davej provided some expert advise on rejetting. Thanks to both of you guys! Finally got to fire up the new (to me) engine and it sounded awesome.

Decided to upgrade to a Barnett clutch spring conversion. Never done one of those before. The job would have been pretty simple, but I didn't realize my torque wrench was broken so I overtorqued the bolts and broke the clutch boss. So, it's got the stock plates inside, but a new clutch boss and the Barnett conversion kit. I couldn't believe what a difference the Barnett clutch makes. This thing has a Kung Fu grip now! I don't have an air cleaner on it yet and the pipes are open, so this thing rips like a raped ape.

Love the seat. I have been thinking about changing mine out. Yours looks a little "low tech". I'm glad my misfortune in the carb purchase for mine ended up being a win for you.

DEEPHATE Yeah, 100% cotton isn't great at repelling water, haha. I will work on a seatpan in the coming months.

JoeBloShmo Thanks man. I still need to Locktite the pulley nut. I wanted to test it out first and it works great.

The bike sounded awesome with open pipes, but it was a little obnoxious. I bought some 3" baffles and welded them in to take the edge off. Maybe I just got used to the way they sounded open, but I'm a little disappointed with the baffles in. It doesn't sound as mean and it now hesitates when I crack the throttle. I may try to find another set of pipes so I can rock some open ones again.

As you can see, I still have a ways to go. But, it is rideable now, so I have been riding the crap out of it and not getting much work done.

"Jap Crap", haha. Most of my friends ride old Harleys, so I get crap for loving Jap bikes. Even though they are the ones constantly breaking down on trips.
