  • First port progress

It's my first port job and I just got done wet sanding the combustion chamber (no polish yet) and taking down the small lips on the bowls of the intake and sanding it up to 400, obviously a few mistakes here and there mostly due to having never done this before, but I thought why not ask for asshol... I mean opinions, haven't touched the exhaust side yet and I'm still looking for my old gasket so I can match it but I'm not to worried about that

If you don't plan on having them flowed before and after I wouldn't worry about anything and just get them to where you think they look okay and throw them on. No one can give you good input by looking at a picture and without numbers there's no indication if it's going to be better or worse than stock. Something that's nice to have as an app that does quarter mile drag by using GPS. That way you could do a bunch of testing at various spots record temperature wind humidity etc. Then after you do a modification go and do the same runs in the same spots and mark down humidity temperature wind etc. That way you can have some data points to look and compare with. Not as good as a flow bench obviously but it will let you know if you're going faster or slower generally speaking.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that is not the finish that you want. It is too smooth. That will mess up the turbulence needed and also mess up atomization of the fuel. Here are a couple pics of the finish you are looking for in the intake side and combustion chamber. A smoother finish on the exhaust ports is OK but not intake and combustion Click image for larger version Name:	intake ports finish.jpg Views:	1 Size:	394.9 KB ID:	156429 Click image for larger version Name:	port combustion camber.jpg Views:	1 Size:	87.5 KB ID:	156430 sides.

That can be easily fixed with a pc of 400 paper attached to something to spin with a drill motor. I used a large 3inch long cotter pin with the sandpaper about an inch wide and couple inches long sandwiched between the halves to make a flap disc. It will spin inside of the port to make a nice finish and hit almost all areas leaving very little to do by hand
