  • Trunk advice

Thinking of doing a trunk for me and the lady to do some long distance riding just need some advice on direction to go. So I was looking at the tsykaru one pictured but it's about 1000 and I'd still have to get the mount made by another member here (can't remember even though I saw it the other day) as well as the stock sissy bar mount. But I also found a early 10s harley tour pack for about 500 still would have to figure out mounting but just looking for input on best options and also if I could find a way to keep the harley semi hard bags that I have ghetto mounted on those quick connects to the fender. Even if I have to cut drill or shave down stuff! Also very deadset on having rear speakers for the lady

Look here for the Rack to mount the trunk. I've heard good reports on this company.
We make strong trunk racks that allow you to add a trunk to your Road Star. These racks slip into your stock sissy bar brackets.

question for you sir how did you mount your saddlebags?

    • #4
I'm with Lug Nut, a used Harley box should be fairly easy to come by and be a solid built product. Not sure how many will fill the audio requirement. Then grab an Adam's Rack and some sissy bar mounts. Another option (although probably harder to find) is you might be able to find an older Royal Star Venture pack. Those had speakers and I believe will mount up without a great deal of work. Our own roadiemort has a sweet looking ride with the Venture trunk and I believe Venture bags.

that being the thing ive seen a few even on amazon but most are chopped or have shit reviews and no audio. i just wanna make sure she gets some entertainment back there because ive got a handlebar system but with some tweaking and wiring i could connect the 2 with an amp. eventually gunna doa fairing but trunk is more important. thank you for the suggestion ill definitely look to see if anyone is selling one!

My 07 has had many makeovers but the Venture setup was the best for me.

The trunk with mounting bracket was $250.00 but needed paint and a little body work of course.

So you don't have it anymore? I always thought this was one of the nicer bikes I'd seen pics of.

I went with the Adam’s Rack very nice and sturdy mounting system. I picked up a chopped trunk off Amazon (XFMT Brand) with a wrap around seat back(separate) and a trunk lid rack(also separate). I’ve had no issues with any of it. Unfortunately the trunk does not have speakers but I believe the have some that do. I did switch out the trunk latch as it as a little loose in its mechanics but it worked fine it would just rattle a bit. I haven’t painted mine yet and I’ve had it 2+ years hopefullylly this year.

pics are of the bike before my ED big tour seats were put on. Trunk works even better with the seat set up and the wife really likes the wrap around feel along with it being pretty comfortable. The Adam’s rack mounts into your sissy bar mounts. Easy 4 bolt mounting.

Well finally got my trunk and am mocking everything up before I start drilling the holes in my adamsrack. Had a feeling this might be an issue but bought the 1600 sissy bar brackets (mine is an 04 1700) and I realized the mounting "bungs" we'll call them for my saddle bags formerly fit into the fender brackets but on these the bolt area is flush not sure if I should just grind down the bungs or get longer bolts to accommodate. Trying to balance out and make sure I don't end up snapping bolts with too much weight extending out on them

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, there should be about a 1-in spacing between the fender and the OEM saddlebag brackets. The OEM Chrome eyebrow brackets, as we call them, have the one inch built into them but if you are not using the OEM eyebrow brackets, you need to add one inch spacers between the fender and the bag brackets. If you don't you're saddlebags will tilt in at the top slightly and will be closer to the drive belt guard on the left side.

So saddlebags are ghetto mounted harley semi hard bags using spacer that fits into stock fender bracket on the sissy bar brackets being used for the rack that 1" spacer is part of the bracket so I ended up getting some longer bolts to make up for the remaining sticking out. Will actually probably have saddlebags a little further away from belt drive

So this being the final product with just longer bolts used noticing more bounce from bags through fender ( has not had the stiffened fender fix as of yet

Make a bolt on bracket from bag to bag if they flop too much.

Are you allowed to have a trailer on your bike in the USA?

Looks like you have removable quick release bag brackets with no support on the bottom and that's why they bounce around. There's nothing stronger than the OEM bag brackets if you can get them. Or like roadiemort says, run a curved strap under the tail end of one bag and around the tire to the tail end of the other bag.

                          I can promise you this….
you can fit a lot more stuff in this bag than you fit in any trunk …. That includes harley, goldwing, or any aftermarket…

my wife can attest to this fact… she used this bag…
i used a kroger plastic shopping bag… for a 2 week jaunt through the mountains…

and she had to do her laundry twice… me … i just changed the essentials… i can live for a month out of a small gym bag… lol…
