Well sorry for the lag in updates guys. The in laws moved to Florida and I inherited a new air compressor and a few other items so I had to spend some time organizing some things.

Made some head way on my coil pack bracket and got the wiring more tidied up. only issue I ran into electrical wise is my turn signals no longer blink. I feel like this happened to me at some point before.

Are you using that little 110 Hobart with no gas to do your welds? They look good. I can't get my little Lincoln to do that good.

I use a 75/25 mixture with .03 wire. I am not an experienced welder by any means but this gets me by lol

Well I have the wiring 95% of the way. Waiting on a few small things before I can say its complete. I really hope the turn signal relay and possibly resistor fix my not blinking turn signal issue. I at least got it mostly wrapped back up and looking decent. What a pain this has been but man everything is nice and tidy now. All of the bulky items are packed into the saddle bag.

SAVAGE rebuild! Following your build is almost better than watching Yellowstone!! Eventually my RS rebuild will get going at a faster pace, even if I have to remove parts from my other RS! I have always liked the bobber’s hardened look and exposure of the massive power plant. The plans floating around in my brain housing has been to blend the bobbers aggressive look with the cholo/vicla style, eliminating the chrome with brushed stainless steel look and bare metal or primer, thereby eliminating hours of polishing and worrying about scratches, etc. I have Harley split tanks minus speedo gauges that I will use in order to show those massive RS heads. Anyhow, impressive and creative how you managed the wiring and it’s placement…winter is done & over here in western Nebraska and it’s time to get my sled finished, thank you for the good time here and can’t wait to see you rolling this bad b*#%h of yours!!

Thanks Solo! I love the bare look and would always choose brushed stainless over chrome! I can ride and park this turd anywhere! I don't even care if it falls over lol. Look forward to seeing your build dude.

So I chanced my skills of welding on the tank tonight and I think it looks okay (At least its underneath the tank lol) Now I just have to get some plugs and test for leaks.

Starting to think more about the fender and seat placement. I plan on making a sissy bar so I will have bungs welded to the rear of the fender that the sissy bar will mount to. I think the front portion of the fender where I will tie into the upper and lower part of the frame tubes will just end up being flat plates welded to the fender and frame with one being drilled and tapped and the other being slotted so I have some small adjustment on the fender placement.

The seat I am going for will be a rigid style seat that has to sit flush to the top of the wish bone portion of the frame. This means I have to remove my old seat bungs and probably grind the oil tank mounts down a touch to achieve this. I plan on mounting the front of the seat to a hinge bracket and somehow bolting the rear down to the frame or maybe even the fender. Not 100% sure yet.

Tank has been holding water for a few hours, hopefully don't see any sign of a leak in the morning.

Got the old seat mounts removed and the oil tank mount adjusted to be flush with the frame rails and allow the new seat pan to sit flush.

No water on the floor or tank fittings this morning. Will test with gas next.

Why do you have four bungs on the tank?

I would be very wary of using a brass water valve for a fuel stopcock… the o-rings and seals are not really what i define as “ long term fuel compatible”

those particular valves are notorious for leaking in water applications after just a couple of months… even shorter periods if the valve is open/closed often…. Just thought i would give you a heads up….

Thanks for the heads up man, This is actually the exact petcock I have had on my other tank since 2016 or so. Either its fine or I got lucky... I will let you know lol

Well I was fairly un lucky tonight.
My plan was to get the (2) tank mount bungs welded into the frame and weld up the oil tank bracket to the frame as well.

I drilled and ground the hole for the first lower bung and wouldn't you know it I dropped the bung in the hole (Bung hole) took me 45 minutes to fish it out from the bottom of the center tube with a magnet.

I then got it welded in and looking good. Started the upper bung which is right where the thread rod is now. Because of the weld around the original rod i broke a drill bit and my step bit nor me die grinder bit will touch it. (Carbide bits come tomorrow)

Lastly I welded up the oil tank bracket/tab. Everything was fine and then my stainless bolt gulled up when putting it back in. Sure enough i broke the bolt off in the tab. Cut the damn thing off and will have to make another.

1 Step forward 2 steps back ! Hopefully tomorrow will go better.

Made a new oil tank mounting tab. Went with a through hole this time vs a tapped hole. Was able to get that welded on halfway decent.

My carbide bits came in for my die grinder so I went to town on the upper tank mount bung and got the tank properly fitted to the bike.

Cut a seat pan and started to brainstorm some ideas on mounting and how the back support area will look.

Did a quick sit test and I think 4 or 5 inches of foam is what feels the best on the cheeks. After the seat is wrapped and compressed I am hoping it will be roughly 2" tall.

Might bounce back and forth between the fender and seat until I have it all figured out.

No sign of gas leakage from the tank, been about 12 hours now.

Got some special heat wrap in for the harness. Shouldn't notice it too much once the tank is in place.

Started into the seat pan. Still figuring shit out as I go... this might be the first of many pans before i get it right lol.

Of course I ran my bottle empty tonight... I will blame my poor welds on that this time around lol.

Will most likely hit up Walmart for a yoga mat or kneeling pads as it seams like that would be easier than the foam I purchased.

Pics are great….. maybe a link to photo bucket or another picture hosting site would be a better use of limited resources of the clinic web hosting management system….
your fabrication skills are impressive… i would have to imagine that all the pictures posted directly to the clunic site is rather time consuming… a link to picture hosting site would free up more of your time to continue the fabrication process….

I didn't realize that was an issue guys? I use photobucket it's actually really easy to share. I guess I can just do links instead?

We had an issue a few years ago where the bandwidth exceeded whatever hosting plan was being paid for by the sponsor. Given the site is being paid for by a sponsor (Rock River Powersports) we've tried to be respectful of the costs/limits.

If you use the picture posting tool in the editing pane here you can post the image link and it will show up in the thread and be pulled down from the hosting site. Photobucket may require a different subscription to allow the pics here. In that case links will also work, just not as pretty.

If you link the image(s) there is a box you want to uncheck (it's a dumb option chosen by default). Otherwise this site will pull the image and store it here as if you uploaded it.

Both will work. Test1 I have to click the link and it opens the photo in another window (I'm using a computer). Test2 shows the image right in the topic window along with your text without any added clicks. As long as you uncheck the option I posted above, Test2 will look the same to other members as your earlier posts without using the RSC bandwidth.
