Update/dewinterize RS

After 60+k miles together, it’s time to go through the entire bike, change ALL fluids, (normally done every 3-4K miles), filters, bearings, brake resevoir O-rings, rebuild carb, etc. Will be changing rear wheel to match the front, updating the Tricky-air-ride suspension and backing up with an airbag and air tank, designing & installing flame throwers, upswept fish tails, removing saddlebags and luggage rack (I will be keeping for long trips), changing coils to Dyna’s, triple trees with 6 degree rake and changing out fuel tank to old set of Harley split tanks, I am even getting a real upholstered seat….here are pics of how she currently looks. In the past I have looked here for advice from a past blog, if I get stuck, I’ll ask for advice.

Removed luggage trunk & saddlebags. Included here are photos of saddlebags mounting brackets and how they are bolted together with under fender cross brace. They are mounted on the same lower bolt as the saddlebags crash guards (came off a Harley, but I had to cut & add 2-1/4” of steel rod for the upper mount to reach bolt behind seat.

Saddlebags & luggage rack removed, putting her on the rack tomorrow and starting with fluid, gaskets & filter changes.

Back wheel removed, new rim getting dechromed like rest of bike, will also need new bearings to fit properly, will need new rear drive pulley, new belt,…I may be stuck waiting for some parts.

Dechromed the spokes with a green scratch pad and hours of elbow grease. My metric axle would not fit my new standard wheel/bearings so I took the axle to a machine shop where it was put on a lathe and trimmed to fit saving myself $$ having to press out new/old bearings and press in new bearings…replaced drive belt & detailed the area.

How will you fit the bearing in the pulley to the turned down axle?

The new standard axle fit the metric bearings in the rear drive pulley….I have not figured out how to mate them yet, possibly go to a new classier pulley.
