  • I am a retired welder and welding inspector. If you can take the exhaust when finished to be ELECTROPOLISHED it will
stay shiny and the heat effected areas next to the welds will not have to be constantly rebuffed to look good.
IF you do not know what electropolishing is you can google that. It is a plating process. It is not chroming.

Edit: Do not do any sanding on the exhaust weldment or it will show up when electropolished.
Best results are with no sanding or buffing.

They are a work of art.

    • Thanks Guy's Just have to finish up some of the welds and put a bracket on it towards the rear for support, most of it was back purged and fusion welded. Also just bought another engine 2005 XV1700 found it on ebay $150 and 3 miles from my house couldn't pass it up.

      • That is too good to pass up. You got a hell of a deal. You planning to run it as is or rebuild it with some hot cams, HC pistons, etc.? How many miles on it?

        • This one is going to get built I have some ideas what im going to do but that most likely won't happen till winter. 35,000 miles on it.

Okay, fellas, it's finished, and I'm ready to show it to any and all who can come... Then, we'll celebrate it with a nice little ride around some of the best roads in your area!

                      Coming together nicely!

                  • It's alive, all electrics done lighting ,turn signals ,ignition and starter etc,All electrics were wired to the moto-gadget in the picture there is no key switch this unit works with my iPhone and the power is turned when I get within 5ft. of the bike when I park the bike I just double-click the start button the engine will shut-down when I walk away it will automatically turn off the power and activate the anti-theft and alarm system which will send me an alarm on my phone if someone touches the bike the sensitivity can be set to different degree's. Here's a pic of the only parts of the main harness I used,5 wires for the coils and 3 for the pickup coil.

I'm with you Lucky, that kind of stuff sounds cool but what happens when it decides to not be so cool?

                  • Lucky,
It scared me a little but I went with it and as it turned out it is very easy to install and setup there are two 4 wire cables (22ga) that I ran through the handlebars to the push button switches that go to the unit and send a signal to what ever function you want for instance to turn on the lights push the button once for hi-beam push again to turn off just hold the button down and they are of,the led brake light is operated by one 22 ga. wire and has I think 5 different ways to function I have it set to 8 quick flashes then stay on until you release the brake.Very few wire running throught the bike.

When you apply the brakes with foot pedal or front brake does the brake light work?
                      Very nice button switch.
You have worked hard to minimize the wiring. Very good.

                  • Yes the unit can sense by amp draw weather it is the running light or brake light so if the lights are on and you apply the brakes the unit will step up the amp's and make the light brighter and with led's it is bright.I will try and make a video and see if I can figure out how to put it on here.

                      • Thanks, Don't know what color or even if it is going to get painted may just coat it with Shark Hide Coating which will keep the natural colors and not rust.

                            • Little bit of an update, I never really liked the gas tank I had on the bike plus it only held 3 gallons so I started searching ebay and found this one 4.2 gallons wider and longer speedo on top with turn signal hi-beam indicator in speedo no crossover line and petcock on left where I wanted it,what do you think pro's and con's.It's ready to run just waiting for carb which is supposed to be here Thursday then a few test runs then back apart for powdwer coat and paint.
