Oh the irony........

So our local Meetup riding group of about 30 met today for lunch and a MSF instructor gave us a free group riding instruction course. It was great and lots of folks told of their experiences, opinions, etc. We’re a bunch of experienced riders, not hot rodders, but a pretty compatible group. Occasionally we have new riders join us with varying degrees of experience. So after the meeting, Kenny leads 10 of us us on a leisurely ride to Fox Island and beyond. A couple miles into the ride, we stop so a couple folks can gas up before we continue. We’re all parked 3 abreast or so, putting on our helmets as the newly gassed bikes come join us and this new guy on a Burgman (that was parked) rearends Kenny’s beautiful F6b, knocking his girlfriend off, tipping both bikes over and damaging both bikes. Dude says his hand got caught on the throttle and because it’s an automatic, it slammed into the F6b pretty hard. Was it made by Toyota? Trashed his fender, threw him over the windshield, cracking it. Kenny’s bike got cracks in the tail piece and maybe a bag, etc. They immediately exchanged insurance info, a great way to meet new folks, don’t you think? I guess the instructor failed to cover parking lot common sense! Nine of us left on our ride, one went home embarrassed! So much for group riding safety!

I gave up pack riding long ago. It's cool with a small pack of people you have ridden with for years, but a bunch of strangers who met on the internet, not for me. Had a close call on a big toy run one time and that did it for me.

Yet another reason I ride alone most of the time. Outside of a toy run back in the late '70s, the largest group? I've ridden with was a total of three of us.

There are a couple group rides I do every year and I have yet to see one of them when someone isn't doing something stupid. I prefer to ride with just a couple friends most of the time.

We have a meet-up group out here we have ridden with a few times. It was fun, but honestly it was the most fun when we sat everyone down, explained group riding to them, asked everyone if it was ok if I set the pace etc lol
Toby and I were the most experienced riders in the group, which included my oldst son, they were mostly on sport type bikes. The group agreed to try it our way and we went to cave junction and back with no mis-haps and everyone had a great time, said I set a good pace for an old lady on a cruiser
Then we didn't ride with them for a while due to circumstances and the latest we heard, was they had all gone for a ride on hwy 36 and a couple of the bikes stacked on a corner. That is one road you need to be careful on, in any vehicle. I haven't seen anything from the group since then. Most of the time, it is just me n toby. I think our group rides will consist of the yearly get together. Still fun to meet up with friends tho, and explore new places!
