The deck is there I believe……if you zoom in you can see it, it just doesn’t have the covers up….. -
Yeah, Joe is constantly upgrading that entire oasis. I think he added the upper section of the decks last year. Did you guys walk down to the dock after dark? We should have grabbed our refreshments and enjoyed the view and refreshing air there on the Adirondack beach chairs on the shore. Pretty impressive.

Talk about having a home-field advantage! I just checked my mileage, and even counting the miles from our primary home (270 round-trip, assuming I make it home), I only logged in 876 miles, with 336 of those on the Day 2 rides. The sad thing is that we've been so overwhelmed with our projects up here that 876 is probably more miles than I've logged for the entire four years since we moved back up here from Vegas. I was doing around 4000 a year down there, but with year-round riding opportunities.
I don't ride in the snow...
I left my bike down at the Riverview Motel overnight since I was just too cold to ride it home last night. Couldn't find my key this morning, and as it goes, the key was right there in the ignition where I'd left it, and my cell still in the saddlebag. Damn. And for whatever reason, Anne and I found ourselves napping for half the day afterward.
Must be getting old...
Now if I can only get my Jeep on the road, and it's almost there! If I can't dial-in that throttle body fuel injection, the Holley double-pumper is going back on, and into the forest we go! Summer's just too short for all the stuff we need to catch up on.
I promise I'll get more miles in, and will hopefully do that nearby Idaho loop sometime this week. Anne says thank you for all of your kind words and support! She was the trooper between us, helping in every way possible, but most notably in enduring all those hours on what is not exactly the most comfortable passenger seat on the planet, without complaint!

I forgot to thank Ahodge75 for the cool Starfest 2022 refrigerator magnets. Anne reminds me to ask about the artwork for that so she can get a quote on the t-shirts. She called her friend today and he's looking forward to making this happen.

Guys, somehow we ended up with the zip-lock that had last year's coasters and an extra magnet from this year. LMK if you have any suggestions. -
YamaDave, we stopped by the motel on the way home from our ride today, and they knew nothing about your magnet, so I'd guess it's still there. She asked your room # but I told her it was no big deal, you had another on its way. The motel was full again, only one bike this time.

I was teasing Duke that since he has family in Challis, Idaho, being the amazing piece of God's Green Earth that it is, that we should base a Starfest out of Challis one year and make it happen. I rode that area during the eclipse a few years back and it is absolutely unbelievable. The runs along the Salmon River are awe-inspiring.
Freedom ride all the way.
The Day 1 ride below is the exact ride I took during the eclipse, with me coming up from Arco. It passes through the Sun Valley, ID, ski resort, out of Ketchum. I'd ride that once a month if I had the opportunity. I've also driven most of the Day 2 ride, with some exception. I'd want to run it again to check it all out.
Not sure what traffic's like during the summer months.
Impossible not to love both of these routes, and we may be able to improve on them. Food for thought for the coming years.

I spent $168 on fuel, road 1202 miles, consumed $31.7 gallons of fuel and got 38 miles per gallon. Lots of 70 plus miles per hour in the twisties and 300 miles of headwinds coming home.Comment
-
Not just the speed through the twisties, but the acceleration between them, is what took our MPG down a bit on Day 1. That was definitely a nice feeling though, just jumping on the gas like that, and I'm pleased that we still held on to the MPG the way we did! Would have thought it would have been much lower.
So in 'Trump dollars' you'd have spent around $80... Just keeping things real! I'm wondering if some guys stayed home because of that? Waiting to hear if Duke made it home OK.
Riding 2-up, we only got 43 MPG on Day 1 (twisties) and 46 MPG on the first tank on Day 2 (cruising). Haven't checked the last tank yet, still around 1/4 tank in there. I'll probably fill that down in Addy on the way home unless we take another run before then. Anne has to head back tomorrow.

I think Mike left that on the table for anyone that wanted them. He had a bunch made last year. I have a baggie of them too. lol👍 1Comment

1593 miles for me, mileage going there, the rides was around 40 to 45mpg, coming home with the terrible headwinds it was closer to 25 or 30mpg. Speed couldn't have had a thing to do with it...

Shores , do we have any way of checking if everyone made it home OK? Haven't heard from MikeyC or Duke yet, among others, but Duke probably has another day to go, and I think Mike was going to do some visiting before calling it a wrap. I shot Duke a text a while ago, as well as Kenny C., even though he trailered home. I don't have everyone's contact info.Comment

Haven't heard from Kenny Urban with the goldwing and trailer. His girlfriend flew to Spokane to meet him and ride home to Tacoma with him. He has my phone number so I would hear if there would have been a problem.👍 1Comment

We are currently in Prairie City. Elaine met us and Christine in Joseph. Yesterday we didn’t see a rock in the shadows while cruising a cemetery and hit it. All most dumped the bike, ran over my foot, drug my foot out and regained control. Foot still sore but not broke. And yesterday on a gravel road Elaine went down on her face. Skinned her forearm up and hurt her foot but nothing broke. Bent the crash bar, twisted the clutch, broke the mirror but we got her picked up and bike straightened out. Today Me and Jenetta rode up to Greenhorn. The other two ladys waited for us on the asphalt. Coming back the first 3 miles was steep down hill gravel and i over heated by back brake so we had to make do with engine compression to get the rest of the way. Kind of dicy but we made it. We will be home Thursday nightIt's not that life is so short, it's just that you're dead for so long.---unknown.👍 3Comment

Glad to hear you're all OK, generally speaking. You're going to have to order up some knobbies for that 800 lb. beast if you keep after these excursions! Beautiful area though. What inspired you to head up to Greenhorn? Your trip back down reminds me of some of the things I do in my Jeep.
Time to convert that RS to the worlds first-ever dual sport.
Safe ride on your other excursions, and your eventual leg home!

Anne and I decided to make that Idaho run today, just east over the mountains from the Riverview motel. I thought the highway would wind us over the top, but zoomed the satellite image in to see it's a dirt road. No problem, decided to go around the mountains and make a return run, 100 miles each way. Four hour run to Priest Lake and back.
You'll remember that last leg of the Day 2 ride when we ran up the east side of the river and crossed the red bridge. Anne and I ran that down to Newport, gassed up, and ran up to Priest Lake. Gorgeous ride. Never been up there.
But here's the deal. From our last gas stop on Day 2, I'd run 173 miles after we did that extra loop up to the dam and back down around Sullivan Lake, plus the 10 miles running from the motel to our house. I did the math and figured I had enough gas to reach Newport and gas up, no problem, since it was only 45 miles down. I'd been getting above 45 MPG riding 2-up, so figured I had nearly two gallons in the tank.
So off we went.
About halfway down I remembered that it is COLVILLE that's 45 miles; Newport is 60. In this case, it was 62 to the gas station.
So now I'm doing more specific math as I ride.
You guys remember those fuel capacity and mileage tests I did after my eclipse run, posted on the old site? Now I'm running those numbers, and was so thankful I had them. I was sure I was going to run out of gas on the road somewhere.
My low fuel light kicked in, and then I waited for the reserve to demand some attention. I was cruising at around 60 MPH or less, conserving fuel on that awesome road. Reserve kicked in at 220 miles, and I'm remembering that I should have 3/4 gallon til dry at that point. I was 47 miles into that run, and not quite sure how far I had to go. It was actually another 15 miles.
Sure enough, the end of the road appeared, and I was breathing easier. Gas station was only a couple of hundred more yards.
Made it. It was actually 237 miles on that tank before we hit the station. Filled it up and it took exactly 5 gallons. Huh? I still had 3/4 gallons left! Apparently I have more fuel than I thought when it hits reserve, maybe a gallon? Easily could have gone another 25 miles with fuel to spare, LOL. Not even cutting it close; I should have had 34 miles still in the tank...
Checked the fuel mileage and we got 47.3 MPG on that tank, including the run from our Day 2 lunch stop back to the motel, then up around the lake.
From there we ran up to Priest Lake, Idaho, and back to the station to fill it up again before heading home (cheap gas), and we'd logged 118 miles on that route. 50.6 MPG on that one! Only 2.33 gallons.
So we ran back up that eastside Pend O'reille River road, this time it was after 6 PM, and wildlife became my concern. Before long we had a deer on the road ahead of us, so I slowed way down, she disappeared, but I kept it slow. 50 yards down the road, out ran her fawn, another 40 yards ahead of us. Not unusual nor unexpected.
A little further and it was a couple of hen turkeys and several of their young ones.
But the coolest thing was further up the road we'd just passed a Harley rider and after rounding a corner there was a black bear in the road! That was awesome. Right near some homes. He just looked our way and scurried toward the river.
Nothing after that, but it was a great ride home, this time not having to worry about gas.
Wish you guys could have been there with us!
The photo is at Beaver Creek campground, at the end of the pavement up there at Priest Lake. MikeyC would have kept going on the dirt road beyond the pavement and ridden it over the mountains back to our place, saving 45 miles, LOL...

Wow! That sounds like a fun ride! We rode thru a couple of elk herds. Saw deer and antelope and a coyote tons of cows. But no bear! I was hoping for a bear. It's not that life is so short, it's just that you're dead for so long.---unknown.👍 1Comment

Quick follow-up.
Anne was asking about the artwork for the t-shirtsAhodge75 .
And were those pics/interviews ever posted from Shores ?
Fires burning all around up here, but nothing out of hand, yet.
I got a ride in down to Lewiston, Idaho and back over the holiday, around 450 miles in all. Just needed to get another ride in, nothing spectacular. Ride back up 95 was better than the ride down on 195 (boring). Lewiston's been on my list for a place to live so wanted to check it out. Anyplace in Idaho is better than anyplace in Washington due to the woke political climate on the west side of the Cascades in Washington State that dictates laws for the rest of the state.
Tempted to run down to Orofino and back up Lolo Pass and the like before it cools off again, but running out of time and way too much work to get caught-up on with the building projects. Haven't run that route before.
LMK on the artwork before Anne unchecks that box.
Looking forward to the RS group pics and interviews!
-----------------------------
FYI I'm planning a ride up through Lolo Pass in Idaho if anyone's interested. Posted it here:
A lot of us will spend an afternoon or day running some new or favorite runs, which for me was usually a canyon loop while I was living in Northern California. Now we just make something up and ride, normally with some kind of destination in mind, such as our run last weekend up to Priest Lake in Idaho (we left from Washington)Comment

MikeyC , is that the highway that heads up the mountain north of town, or another road? The highway itself is a nice ride right there, I found myself running up it at 80+ MPH while still warming the bike (and myself) up on the ride home. Thought I was in 4th for the climb, turned out I was in 5th. That's what having air in your tires (rather than 15 lbs.) actually does for you. Otherwise I can always pick it up on this next or another trip. Thanks for the heads-up! I'll check the map. -
Ahodge75 , sounds like something I'd do as well. I'd forgotten about it as well until she said something a couple of days ago. Anne says 'she just wants a t-shirt'! At least she's thinking about it...
