Anne and I are in; will be staying at our vacay home assuming we go with the Ione, WA Riverview Motel plan...

Should I transfer a refined version of what I posted in the other thread over to this one, including motel into, proposed ride loops, etc.?

Wait to transfer the info until most attendees are absolutely sure of their location choice. We don't want to confuse people with multiple posts. I suggest we wait until the first of the year to confirm the location.

The downside to waiting until the first of the year is we may lose rooms which are already in short supply. A takeover of the place could be really cool. Being able to have a place to have a BBQ and get together is very enticing as well.

I'll be in attendance if I'm in the area around that time, depends where it is..

Planning on selling most of my shit and becoming a gypsy biker next spring.. gonna be heading out to Florida in April to work the Thunder Beach rally, then heading south to Sarasota from there to see some old friends.. then I plan on heading north to my home state of PA to spend some time with my mom, haven't seen her in over 5 years.. after that I'll most likely be heading back out West, probably to the PNW to spend some time exploring the Cascades.. also have some friends down in Cali I'd like to link up with.. I'm also planning on going to Sturgis to look for work, then probably back to CO after that to work for the fire department out here..

Of course none of this is really set in stone other than going to see my mom but I'll definitely make a point to come through if it's possible for me to do so.. would love to meet y'all and shoot the shit!

So has it been decided yet on a motel? so far it looks like we will need 13 rooms and that will grow.

What was a couple of the most popular routes? Someone had said Hwy 20 was an awesome ride but the original idea was Priest River. I don't know why though. Can anyone elaborate?

You all were saying to wait until after the first of the year to decide... If we're going to do a takeover of the Riverview Inn, a dozen rooms, then we need to focus on the next motel down, another seven rooms (including a nice apartment), and go from there. That's 19 rooms between the two and really convenient. I did a quick count of around 50 rooms in the area.

And I posted the two suggested ride routes in the other thread so you can click on the links to view them.

                      So...

Yeah, we just need to say go and get on with it. You have done an incredible amount of research, know the area, and are enthusiastic about the event. I think there is reservations since we have never met/ridden together. I personally am fine with that and would like to just get on with it, make our reservations and Get this event moving!

Yeah I totally get that regarding us not really knowing one another..

I'm just trying to set this up in a way that even if I dropped off the face of the Earth the ride would go off flawlessly and be fully self-contained.

Keep in mind that when living up toward Mt. Shasta in Northern California, I'd routinely make canyon runs on my Suzuki RF900R, running 150-200 mile loops on mountain roads for entertainment. I cut back a bit knowing that I really had to hit the track if I was going to take it any further, preferring that to ending up under the wheels of a semi-truck on some mountain canyon highway in the middle of nowhere (that while I was a firefighter who'd been on the scene of too many biking disasters). The problem was that track days were $300+ and I was raising a family at the time. I moved north after that and the roads weren't conducive to sport biking much, hence my eventual choice to buy a cruiser, which I did after selling my RF and moving to Vegas.

Keep in mind that I raced motocross for years in my younger days.

Back then, on the RF, canyons were what it was about, along with long back-road straightaways that allowed me to stretch the legs of my RF.

Now I prefer scenery with my twisties, and am not as much about speed and getting the pegs on the pavement. My daughter and I used to ride canyons 2up and we routinely had the pegs scraping the roadway. I've ridden with a buddy now and then but basically ride solo, usually with Anne on board.

Regarding the routes, it would be hard for anyone to not love at least 3/4 of each ride, if not 95%. Not the Grand Canyon but certainly quality riding. I'll be looking forward to each and every mile!

Here's a shot of us last summer at Sweet Creek Falls which is a couple of miles from the hotel.

                            Thanks for the pics, cool!

I was just worried about two different motels, but we could have the drinkers at one motel and the non drinkers down the road . Are they within walking distance of each other? What say some of you other drinkers, I know I got no business on the bike once I start drinking. And I can name a couple of others, but I won't

I drink, but rarely enough to put me above the legal limit. Anne's always good as a designated driver, she only rarely tips a bottle.

Here's an overhead view of the motel. That big gray triangle-shaped area in the middle is the parking lot which we'll have all to ourselves. The motel is on the right, it's two stories. The house on the left is the office, where the owners live. Next to that's the weed shop, LOL, then the highway. A few hundred yards north is the second motel.

The BBQ deck area is on the north end of that parking lot under the white tents, overlooking the river.

                            https://www.google.com/maps/@48.7361.../data=!3m1!1e3

Here's the second motel; the pizza place is in the same building. The best room is the apartment which has full facilities for only $125.

You can scroll the map down the highway to the Riverview.

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

You’ve done a lot of work and we really appreciate all of it so thank you. One question though, I notice the 2nd hotel doesn’t have a lot of parking area. And I see there is a Ione motel and rv park that looks bigger did you check into them at all? I like to have a drink or two but I won’t ride if I have had any.

Yeah, parking for seven cars, I think, but they own the gym next door (north) and the gas station across the street (west) so that parking is available as well.

I don't think the other place is open any longer; I think it's now being used as a private residence. The RV park may still be open in the summer months. Their phone number is disconnected. I'll do a drive-by on my next run up there, maybe next weekend. I can't find a website for them anywhere.
