We got home just after 5. We logged 2997 miles for the week. Glad you guys are posting pictures. Still think my favorite one is Sasquatch.

Well made it Prineville with Mikey, J.D., Christine and after they took off for home.....I found this Gem.....running hard all weekend.....but wouldn't change any of it....will be looking at a place for tire Tomorrow in Redmond or bend.....

I overnighted in Kamiah. Finally got a comfortable bed. But neighbors locked themselves out of their room at 2:30am. They were knocking so loudly on their door trying to wake up their kids that they woke me up.
So I slept in, left around 10am. I’m at Lochsa Lodge for lunch. Smoke is way worse today than it was last week.

Michael and I made it to Challis and I was sweating it, driving cautiously. No cords showing.
When I started out for Starfest, the tread wasn’t to the wear indicating marks. It didn’t take long with the Dunlop 401s.

Yes Steve. This old man would have taken 3 days to get home in this heat. I had to bring both bikes home, and it really hard to ride both at once.

Thanks for the rides and meeting everyone. After 3000 miles and too many gas stops the Road Star is growing on me. Remembering asking Steve how could anyone want a big pig air cooled V twin? Then he pointed out that the bike rides like crap because my dear fucking Watson you have a flat tire. So am I getting into Road Star vibe? Maybe. I removed the carb to investigate the poor slow speed handling a poor MPG. The carbs insides and out was black and greasy. I have a stock 2008 exhaust, again thanks Steve. I found a 175 main jet and unnumbered pilot jet but looks like a 35, and the needle is adjustable six slots. This was set at middle clip with washer top and bottom and below spacer. The o rings on the choke, float seat, and accelerator pump are dry and crusty. will replace. Yet I think the main problem may be the float level. I am doing way to many things at once. I will start with the 170 main and leave the needle alone, new o rings and see what happens. I will check the float level on the bike and hope it passes.

Eric, I am glad you are not wasting any time jumping into that carburetor! You have two phone numbers of a couple great carburetor gurus so don't hesitate to give them a call. They have it down to a science. I'm sure your grease issue is probably from the rear valve cover breather tube that attaches to the back of the intake box. It can get particularly messy especially when the engine is over filled with too much oil. I would suggest that you reroute that hose out of the intake box to a small universal filter either underneath the tank up by the ignition or down low somewhere. Then plug the port on the back of the intake box. Also get rid of that crappy Dino oil and put in some good synthetic 20-50. How did your tires fare on your trip home? Did they wear well?

Eric, you should call me before putting the carb back together. You will want the spacer and washer in place on the needle before your done with the carb.
