  • 2nd ?

As you guys know I had oil coming out of my carburetor at the bottom. Now I know that I overfilled it with oil from the comments I got back. I am going to add a jet kit and a ported manifold after I clean it and an air intake. Does anyone know how many cc's that would add? Roughly doesn't have to be accurate.

Porting the intake manifold doesn’t add ccs. Cc is measurement of the volume of the combustion chambers.

      What does it do ?

It increases the flow speed of air and fuel into the engine by reducing friction and resistance.

CC's is an abbreviation for Cubic Centimeters, the measurement used to determine the "size" of the engine. Actually it has nothing to do with the physical size of the engine. It's the measurement of the amount of water the cylinders will hold. You can also measure it in inches if you're opposed to the Metric system, I think the 1600's are 98 C.I.D. (cubic inch displacement) and the 1700's are 102 cubes (cubes being slang for C.I.D.) Most engines are measured using this method but not all. Lawnmowers and boat motors are more often given a horsepower rating rather than their displacement. The only to increase the displacement of your Roadstar is with bigger cylinders and pistons. It can be done, but at a substantial cost ($$$$). Hope this helps.

What FPB said, and to add to that, you can technically increase displacement changing the shape of the crankshaft i.e. making the "throw" more pronounced. This increases the "stroke", so you increase the usable volume of the cylinder or it's CC's / CI's. Imagine you have a water glass with a large round rubber stopper that fits perfectly inside the glass, the further down you push the stopper, the more water the glass will hold. Same with internal combustion engines [ICEs]. ICEs are basically air pumps, the greater the amount of air and fuel you can pass through, the more power it will produce. Enlarging the or "porting" the intake manifold allows more air to pass through; imagine breathing through a small hose vs. a larger hose.

When porting your manifold, you basically want to remove the material inside, both rubber and aluminum, until it matches the diameter of the intake port on the engine.
