It's a far cry from a bike but I thought I'd share one of the projects I finished last week. A little setup is required or the whole thing won't make much sense...you see every day I take my dog for a walk and afterward I stop off at a little coffee shop for my reward. Now this place has two kids pedal cars that moms use to keep the little ones busy while they chat and hang out. Now one of these toys is so old and worn out that nothing works any more, there's no steering, no pedals...nothing. As a result the kid that gets stuck in this thing is helpless and always banging into shit...chairs, tables and people. I asked the owner if I could take it home and clean it up a bit and this is the result. Using my 3D printer I recreated the steering wheel, the radiator cap, headlights and pedals. The body was stripped down to bare metal, repainted in Candy Apple Red with a shot of pearl over the top and then clear coated. Using my airbrush I added a few details like door handles, hinges and logo's front and back. It's been a fun project that I have no doubt with get the shit beat out of it...oh well.

A random act of kindness...and a cool one at that. I applaud you.

Yeah it'll be cool to see the kids using them this summer. Mostly they just drug this one around because you couldn't steer it...now they can.

You made a steering wheel from a printer! Amazing! Very Nice work, I'm sure the kids will be fighting over who gets the new ride!

Sounds pretty cool! You should start a thread with some of the stuff you've done. I know I'd be curious to see some of the projects.

Most of the shit I do NOBODY is interested in...lol. I do high resolution 3d terrain modeling, photogrammetrics where I turn photographs into 3d models, boat hull modeling and anything else I find challenging. I always kid folks that my hobbies are more difficult than most peoples jobs, but hey they keep me going. My next project is I've got a set of plans coming in the mail for a hover craft a friend is building (he can't make heads or tails out of them), so I'll take those paper plans and digitize them into a 3d model for him. We're already cooking up some cool innovations for control systems that will work in the wilds of Alaskan rivers where he gold mines.

Just shipped 8 of the little buggers out in the mail today. I thought it was easier for me to print 'em up then for Mikey to cast them. If they work that's cool...if not maybe he can use one for making a mold. I guess we'll see.

I'm brewing up ideas for the second pedal car which is Retro Style fire engine that looks like this, except for the faded paint and general wear and tear. I'll probably strip it down, shave off some of the bling, clean up the ass end and throw a Real Flame paint job on it to make it pop. Tires and headers are a distinct possibility depending on how creative I get.
