    Start metering out the power to the starter Should always be power to 1 side of the starter relay under the side cover(follow the battery cable) then when you push the starter button you should have power to the other lug on the relay going to the starter. If you don't have power to the other side while pushing the starter button you likely have a bad starter relay. You can jump across both relay lugs with a screwdriver and it should start but make sure it is in neutral. Also make sure it isn't just in gear while you are trying to start it. Obviously make sure all connections are clean and tight first

      Thanks Dave I didn't cover the starter at all since the boot was covering it im learning as I go and that was probably a dumb choice to willingly make.

      Another probably poor choice I believe I put a lil Vaseline over the ground wire on top the oil tank and put the cover back on sprayed normally could this be a issue ‽

      I dont have a meter yet if I can't figure this out today I will get one tomorrow its raining still here.

      Yes sir it was in neutral and the green N was light bright headlight and speedo seemed liked it had significant enough power, for now I will throw it on the charger with a nice slow charge see what it says when I first hook it up with any luck ...... well no that wouldn't make sense 1 it fired right up NO problem sure it died right away bc I'd removed the idle screw when replacing the 175 jet too 172 5 last time I started the bike way yyyy too high idle so I extremely under did it this time adjusted where it would stay started with a little gas with being in a gated community older majority people living here and midnight I was just trying get out the Apts without too much scene and hit the choke etc once out Apts with tiny bit gas she ran about 1000 1500 feet and when I let off the throttle she died I assumed yea I need to pull the choke now and get her warmed up but when I hit the starter dead silence I smell everything not one off smell or even noticeable smell at all no fluid leaks im just left scratching my head and knowing if it was battery I'd at least have a trying to turn over and orblights dim just nothing baffles me has to be electric or sensor im assuming electrical since it ran np as far as it did then just dead. No there was no bumps hit jarring of the bike from when started to stall

        So I get to looking and my starter fuze is blown I put a replacement in knowing it would just blow again.
        Same scenario this time I pin pointed it too the back brake and the clutch I kinda did both at same time as a car turned the corner of our narrow gated community road and it killed the bike and blew the fuze. Any idea's what I've done wrong on the put back together process its the 2nd time I've fully dismantled it and put it back no issues last time so I'm stumped

          Found it with a little research, I didn't get the back brake lights securely electric taped I bet it's shorting out on the fender when I hit it

            Dave .... any ideas I pulled my headlight fuze just to get me to the store pulled my brake light wiring down which looked fine wrapped each one again put it back together and pumping the back brake still triggers the blown fuze let me guess something to do painting the foot rest

              Fully finished hit the forks and visible frame engine and bay area with high temp clear coat

                Haven't tested to make sure yet but I found tape inside the back brake caliper I assume that's the culprit so I'm a happy camper

                    You painted brake hose overspray on risers...you painted intake where manifold attaches....you painted floorboard rubbers. I think you're in for lots of headaches

                      Brother the floor boards I will be repainting and then coating in clear truck bed liner, yes a little acetone will be carefully used to get the overspray off a little over spray no biggie was a split second decision hit it clean later easily, the manifold I plugged the inside and I will be using Acetone and 2000 grit sand paper on the surface to get spotless, also I will be attaching manifold gasket maker is that a no no yes its got new o rings no not OEM found a solid fit at auto zone for 2 bucks.

                      I kinda know what I'm doing my brother each time I get a little better and less stupid appreciate when you drop good tips

                        And I will use a L Allen wrench and make sure any gasket maker doesn't make its way to the intake valves if you say the following method is a no no then I won't only reason I decided this is I got a junkyard good looking manifold for 20 bucks ibcouldnt say no looks great but the fit required me using a wrench between the top and a fin to pry it a inch down to fit a screw in, yes I know a 100 dollar new one is in my best interest and will come along with my strat and or V max when my pain and suffering check comes rolling in like a freight train then the real fun begins

                          1600 & 1700 manifolds are not compatible, if you have to pry to fit you will never get a seal, just my 2 cents.

                        Check manifold fir numbers....1700 and 1600 manifolds look the same but are different. If the numbers are "4WM" its for a 1600 if they are "5VN" its for a 1700.
                        Can get a new (nit OEM) 1600 manifold for $48 on ebay or genuine one for 80

                        a 1700 almost fits on a 1600 but not quite...one bolt won't easily go in...

                          Damn lug if I knew it was like that absolutely I will go oem new.

                          They measure the same look the same, I knew to mention they was different and the owner knew they was different, it's the biggest mc graveyard in ysa pretty cool he knew his stuff.

                          Tbh when it didn't perfect fit I took it back tried to get my money back but he wouldn't do it said it was a xv1700 he got it off and just sitting on a different bike just needed some love and in my poor shitty defense that's why I was planning on throwing on copperatine exhaust gasket masker then use a rag and Allen wrench to clean any that came inside the surface intake area is that a bad idea? I'm at the mani back on stage now just ported it, I looked intensly for manifold numbers couldn't find any at all not on mine either both was complete void of any marking

                            Oh shit that's exactly my delima 3 go in np 4th I have to pry it down. Glad you said this my brother as now I will install my old one and just call it a 20 dollar loss buy the new OEM that I don't mind

                              I'm on a 04 1700 BTW I can make it fit probably not worth the work and hassle of hooking it all up and doing a seal test is it sigh

                                really interested how this turns out. Was just eyeing down the tool drop marks on my fender and wondering how much of a paint it would be to just repaint the fenders and tank....

                                  Brother it's not and at all warch a few good videos on rattle can and prep before painting id gave too see pix for any further advice but don't he afraid if nervous grab a spate piece if metal and practice doing what the video shows you overlapping roughly 50 percent same steady even movement, don't bend the wrist keep it straight, hey its 12 bucks a can and a lot lot fun learning here's my final finished frame polished daboot pictures
