      For those of you following this- if you have apes; did you keep the wire guide brackets under the top clamp and on the front side of the forks?

          I did not keep my wire guides but I have 18" apes now and I am thinking about going to Harley switches because the factory turn signal switch sucks. I will also route the wires through the bars. Downside is I am pretty sure
          I will have to change out the throttle and clutch cables for the Harley controls.

            Well after about 12 hours in the garage- collectively; not in one shot- I have the Baron Kong Juniors on. I swapped the clutch cable, throttle cable, and brake lines. Also installed new Avon grips. Love the set up!! Though it appears my days of running a windshield in the winter are over.

            That’s it for tonight. Too late for a test run. Have to do it tomorrow.

            Oh- I also pulled the emblems off the tank. Just gotta clean up the goo quick.

              Alright- I got to get out quick yesterday for a test ride after the swap over. MAN! I love the apes! I have to admit after spending as many years as I did on sportbikes making fun of this stuff it's ironic to be doing it now. So the Roadstar feels like a whole new bike again. I love the seating position, the bar reach, and it actually seems easier to steer now.

              I also took off the stock emblems. I was never a fan of those; I had considered putting on 2007 emblems, but when I found the "Roadstar" fender emblems I decided to go a little more minimal and just did tuning forks on the tank. I had considered the "Yamaha" emblem on the side cover like the earlier bikes- but my passenger floorboards woule hide them most of the time so I figured that was a waste. The tuning forks are a metal foil 3D type that conformed very nicely to the tank.

              Really the only big ticket item left is the Freedom duals. Anyway- here she is!! Click image for larger version

                  I find myself looking for any excuse to pull the horse out now. Lol
                  Out of ketchup? Off to the store I go!
                  need to drop off some mail? Throw it in the bags!
                  Odd to think that the apes made that big a difference but I really find it much more entertaining to ride now even though I was having fun before!

                    So I decided to take the windshield mountings off since the screen won’t clear my apes.
                    after I took those brackets out there was way the headlight bucket center screw- in the bottom- was going back in. So I had to use a couple of washers to shim the driving light bar so that the bucket would remount.
                    I am hoping that the driving lights are aimed up way too high now.
                    Getting those brackets off sure cleaned up the front end though.

                      So I go the Big Ed standard seat in the mail today. I was able to do a head to head comparison.
                      considering my height I should have stayed with the tour seat; but honestly I like the scoop of the standard seat and I like the more pronounced ridge at the back. I think I’m staying with the standard! I’ll post pics Monday. For some reason uploads from my phone rotate 90 degrees.

                              I might do that over the winter. I wasn't real excited about cutting off the connectors to feed the wires through and then extending the circuits; seems like it introduces a lot pf potential failure points. BUT I think it would look a TON better routed through the bars.

                                If you solder each connection, use heat shrink tubing at each connection it will be as reliable as stock. Just don't forget to stagger the wire connections at different lengths to help with fishing them through the bars. I'm doing that with my current bars this winter and probably going to use Harley controls/switches to fit the bars better and improve the turn signal switches.

                                You can pull the pins out of the connectors so you dont have to cut them.

                                Not if you get bars designed to have wires run through and dond use too thick of a sheath over the wires.

                                  I"ll have to look at it closer when I swap the bar mount top clamp out. I have Baron bars- there are wire windows up under the clusters- but for some reason I'm thinking that the lower window is covered by the factory mounts. I'll double check.
