  • any luck with data useage?

Just wondering if anyone had any luck figuring out why this site was using so much data usage. It seems that without pictures the participation on here has dropped dramatically. I know a couple people seem to have found someway to post a couple pics. Wondering what we could do to get this fixed or find an easy way around it, that would maybe help bring people back. Maybe we could start a sticky thread that shows step by step process of how to do this for people like me that are pretty much computer illiterate. (as i'm sure a lot of us old timers on here are) I think that maybe the first time I called myself an Old Timer LOL.
I have always loved this site, and I hate seeing something as minor as pictures killing it.
To all of you running it. I know you are doing an awesome job, and doing the best you can to keep it going and we appreciate it. I don't mean anything i'm saying in a bad way towards you.

Too complicated to answer this question? Inquiring minds want to know.

This site on their Facebook page is super. I spend more time on there than here.
Yes this really sucks with no pictures.

5 days into what I think most of us consider a very serious question and still no serious answer? I for one can confirm I rarely come to this site anymore and a lot of that is contributed to the fact that I cant share media or view it. Other sites seem to manage their media just fine. Why cant we?

This site has upgraded twice to add more bandwidth and now its worse than when the site was reintroduced. Do we have to start over again?

What's up guys? I guess it's time for me to crawl out of my cave, I wasn't aware the site was struggling, which isn't good to hear, and the image posting thing has happened while I was away, so I'll have to look into it.

It appears you can post photos hosted elsewhere. The key is to *uncheck* "Retrieve remote file and reference locally". [It's checked by default.] Then you should be able to add images, though they will be subject to the same issues as in the past, were if the hosting service is shut down or the images reach some view limit, the links will become broken and the image will be missing. But at least it's something. I'll post when I know more.

Hosted videos seem to be working too:

It looks like we've worked out the image posting issue just go easy on the nonessential images. If you have any problems posting images PM the Admins.

                      Thanks.

Okay, I hate to be the dick here, but I'll be the dick here.

With some members ignoring repeated requests to reduce image size and Mike Duclos paying the bandwidth charges, I changed the limit on image sizes to stop the hemorrhage.
Some people here feel they should be able to post multiple 10MB+ images every day and that everyone else should pay for it.
                        I disagree.

There are free image hosting sites out there, search Google for them.
I suggest www.imgbb.com for free hosting.

There are also free image reducing websites out there.
Sign up for a free account & use them.
You can also use Microsoft Outlook (email) to reduce images if you use that for your email.
Literally send yourself an email with your reduced size images, save them to your computer, THEN upload them.

Working two jobs I don't have time to do it for anyone, much less write tutorials for each of them.
Maybe someone else here has that kind of free time.

The alternative is to have everyone chip in again to upgrade to the full commercial hosting package on the forum.
It is literally twice the money we pay for this version, and will be charged at that rate every year.
We don't use much bandwidth with the thousands of posts generated here, but image hosting of large pictures regularly puts us WAY over the limit.

Sorry about the tone of this reply, but this issue is getting old.
There was NO image hosting on the old site & virtually nobody complained.

I just created a new account at www.imgbb.com, uploaded a BIG picture and copied the BB code right under the image.
This cost me nothing and took literally less than one minute.

Doing this also 'costs' the forum nothing in bandwidth, since it's hosted at imgbb, not here on the forum.

Pasted into this post, it looks like this:

7"Frenched trim ring from a Yamaha 2009 RoyalStarTourDeluxe, Spots have HD frenched trim rings or the whole light and turns are HD.

Roadiemort nailed it. HD spots & a Royal Star Tour Deluxe trim ring.
Signals are also HD to match the spot buckets since the Yamaha spots don't match up to the HD signal stems.
The HD setup is mounted on the original Yamaha light bar.

Pic was taken some time last year - maybe before that since i upgraded everything to LED this past summer.
There is still quite a bit of snow around here in SE WI.
I go home after dark so all the wet stuff freezes about the time I hit the road home.
