  • Started my own business

Technically I have started my own business. Got a couple of jobs done. Unfortunately I have yet to setup my own shop yet but I am getting there. I have been moonlighting in the shop where I currently employed. This is just a side venture for now but I hope it will become full time. I am really excited to see what happens but I certainly am not looking forward to the paperwork side and having to file quarterly reports. Still have yet to aquire my own equipment but my current employer doesn't mind me working on the side with their equipment. I am hoping to begin dipping into the motorcycle customization and parts market. Everything is hand made. I also will be doing driveline repair and fabrication for cars, commercial vehicles and equipment. I will be doing other Fab and repair as well. Not looking to do big projects( but that is all a matter of perspective) going to be repairing a 4 Link on a Jeep here soon. (Super easy repair) here is what I have done so far. I also did a driveline for a crew bus for a local logging company but I have no photographic evidence of that.

Nice work but I have 1 question, "Why is the asphalt plate on the dump box bolted to the uprights instead of welded on the plate side?"

The plate itself be is hinged with four 8" bullet hinges. What you see bolted is a piece of conveyor belt that holds the plate in place. Owner ask for hinged and removable.

The plate we used to make for the county trucks pinned to the mounts that the salt spreaders pinned to for winter snow and ice. Yours looks good and sounds like it is gonna work perfect for the owner.

Wow, nice work and exciting to be starting your own business, it will be worth it in the long run. Some learning curves but it becomes old hat in no time. Congrats.

Weird looking thumb on the bucket. Why is it webbed?

It really isn't webbed, it is plated in between the frames. Just something I came up with for the mini excavator at work. Want a larger bucket and a largo thumb that bolts to the original thumb. Looking I would have done a couple things differently but it works as planned. Reason it was made was the I could build it cheaper and faster than having anyone else do it and I needed a larger bucket. 3 days I was done with the bucket and thumb vs 12 weeks. Plus you can't buy one that is overrated for a machine from a parts dealer. At least I wasn't able to find one. I really appreciate all the positive feedback thanks everyone. I know some of you are looking for Landon bars... What I would like to know is how they are mounted. Plus a couple pictures.

Hope it all works out well for you.
I had my own M/C service & repair shop from '08 thru '012. Eventually, keeping up with the required paper-work & dealing with pain-in-the-ass customers proved to be much more than I cared to put up with.
Best of luck to ya' !

Congratulation, best of luck to you. Owning your own business is great, have owned mine for 25 years and it was the best decision i have made so far. I have found out over the years, the hardest part of it all is COLLECTING THE PAYMENT.

Part #1 could be done in 2 pcs. with a welded through tang. Drill a small pressure relief hole in part #1 from the bottom where it won't be seen when installed, this will help with clean Tig welds without porosity when welding the bent tube. You could also go with solid bar to avoid this.
