  • Another 3D CAD project

Since long before it was a "thing" I've been captivated with 3D CAD design and over the years I've never passed up a chance to do something difficult to keep my hobby fun and interesting. Two weeks ago an old friend approached me with a dilemma and asked if there was anything I could do help him out with a project he wanted to pursue. It seems that several years ago he had purchased a set of plans for a large hovercraft and after looking at them for a couple of weeks he realized there was no way they would allow him to build the darn thing. Not only did the plans make no sense to the casual observer, they didn't make sense to the trained eye either. It was a jumble of isometric views scattered across multiple pages using varying scales and dimensions in bubbles that pointed to nothing and nowhere in particular. In other words it was a mess and to make matters even worse he wanted to change the construction material and the overall size to better suit his needs. It took a while to decipher the designers intentions, but in the end I was able to build him a reasonable rendition that took into account not only the original plans, but all the changes he wanted to incorporate into the craft. Since one of the guys asked me to post some of my other projects on here I thought I'd oblige, so here you go.

Pretty neat cad work mnm! I also work in cad but majority of the time in 2d. We have Revit which is a 3d add on to autocad to build up a buidling and all inner components inside. It is used for coordination between trades. It is only as good as the person that inputs the info and knows about coordination. We had a project that was done this way and the guy doing the input forgot to add the building roof slope and screwed up every trade within the buidling including us sprinkler guys.....what a mess that was!

Yeah, there's an old saying "garbage in, garbage out" and that's a perfect example.
