  • Any streamers here?

I am considering, like many are, getting rid of cable TV and getting Hulu. The only real channel that's making me hesitate on switching is the local sports channel that carries the hockey games on is not offered on Hulu. Has anyone else tried streaming on their tv?

Get a HD external antenna and you can likely pick up OTA channels too. We don't because we have DishTV, and that gives us the locals. We do stream Netflix though as well as a few other PPV movies.

2000 Roadstar 1600 - BAK, Pumpless, Curt's manifold, Mikuni HSR42 Freedom Combat Pipes Jumbo Strong bags, PPG 'HellFire' Paint.

Plenty of options to get locals even if you are out of antenna range. I use Roku and switch back and forth between different apps. Right now I have Youtube.tv and get my locals along with the big cable networks (ESPN, USA, TruTV ect.) for 35 dollars a month no contract switch whenever you want. A few other services around the same price are Directtv now and Sling tv. Sling has a really good package but at this time does not have my locals, DirectTv now only works on newer Roku devices and I didnt want to buy new sticks for every tv.

I never had cable or dish.
(I always like asking someone if they really watched 3 grand of TV in the last two years.)

For many years I got by with hooking up my cable internet to my TVs. for 10 years they were saying they were going to block it, they finally did.

So I hooked up to my 60 year old antenna on the roof.
Built a few Home Theater PCs to record the TV shows, we stock up and always have something to watch, and NO commercials this way.

Have Netflix and an Amazon Prime membership I never used for video, but could.
Find a bunch of the 6 year old series I never watched on cable and I'm good for the year.

Can always find want you want online, and have Kodi on the PCs too.

Get by easily because we don't want sports, except for the Bears.
Usually wait to watch that Sunday night without commercials to not screw up a nice Sunday.
And finally found streaming NFL anyways.

Like the others said, get a good old TV antenna for all he local stuff. Powered / amplified antennas work best. And no need for some fancy expensive "HD Digital antenna!!!" There is no such thing, it's a BS marketing pitch to charge you more money. Any old amplified rabbit ears will do. In fact I'd avoid the ones you see advertised on TV that looks like a flat square of plastic. Something like this will do nicely: https://www.walmart.com/ip/HDTV-Digi...&wl13=&veh=sem

Between my 25 year old RadioShack rabbit ears, Netflix and Amazon I couldn't be happier. I don't miss my cable one bit. Feels good in fact. Also, I have friends with Roku and Hulu, and they're fine for watching TV. FYI- Hulu is a service, like Netflix and Amazon, Roku is the devise.

Hulu does give you local channels but I don't know if I can get the one sports channel that I want and they don't offer it.

I've been without Satellite for 2 years now. I use Apple TV for Netflix and HULU and a OTA antenna for all local tv. Like Doc says I don't miss it one bit. The only problem is all the major sports teams are smart. The only way you'll be able to watch local hockey would be if the game is broadcast on a local channel. But, if its broadcast on cable, you'll have to buy into their internet package. The NFL, NHL, all the majors have them. It all has to do with blackouts and all that crap. I've just learned to miss some of my Hockey and Baseball, but can watch all NFL on my OTA antenna.

Good luck. The best thing is all the money your going to save at least for now until they start jacking up the cost of internet like they did with cable.

I currently have Comcast which I like to call Crapcast, can offer me a lower rate with a 2 year contract but not sure I want to do that. I know they will have to raise the cost of internet with lots of people starting to stream. I know I can listen to the hockey game on the radio but doing that for the entire season will take some getting use to. I am not sure if the NHL tv is offered with an app or of their website.
